![]() ![]() BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Yes. Adidas is the current rumor.
Current Adidas teams: Alabama Arkansas UCF Cincinnati Houston Idaho Indiana Kansas Louisville Massachusetts Nebraska Nevada NC State Northwestern Notre Dame Pittsburgh Temple Tennessee UCLA Wisconsin
The exciting part is the huge increase of free goodies Adidas provides to get name recognition out there as opposed to Nike who- well everybody knows who they are.
Are there any other teams besides Texas Tech that are sponsored by UA?
All of these changes are meant to unify the mark and return to tradition -- color, lettering, logo. I think it is a fabulous idea.
A few years ago, I was on a committee that was asked to give opinions of the proposed new "swoosh" lettering and the new, "improved," modern, ugly, menacing Mustang. I (and others on the committee) said it was a stupid idea -- we didn't need new logos, we needed more focus on making the emblematic running mustang and block letters more prominent and consistent in the community and on our marketing material. But they had hired some outside firm that had convinced them that "new" is the way to go to appeal to the younger generation. I am SOOOOO glad that Richard Sweet and the marketing team know that a consistent logo and message are what's important. Along with the fighting uterus logo (by that I mean the longhorm), the running mustang is one of the best, most recognizable images --- if it is used consistently and not diluted. You see a longhorn, or burnt orange, and you automatically think UT. That is quality branding. We need to be treating our own mark in the same way, and not diluting it by changing with fads or trends -- and Richard Sweet is doing just that.
Maryland, the poster boys for all their commercials.
USC had a major uniform change in 2002. GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!
The other day, I heard that A&M was making the change from Nike to Adidas this year.
Maryland - UnderArmor was started by a Maryland grad, and was friends with Eric Ogbogu (short-time Dallas DE), who is the "WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE!" guy in the commercials. Word has it they paid San Fran TE Vernon Davis -- another Maryland guy -- more than the other rookies who appear in their commercials. Wow. That just took a lot of the excitement out of the switch. Bleah.
Your kidding right?!
USC Unveils New Football Jerseys First major uniform change for the Trojans since 1971. Feb. 7, 2002 USC football will sport a new look in 2002. Coach Pete Carroll's Trojans will wear jerseys with a style that harkens back to the era of the 1960s--with some added touches. The last time USC underwent a uniform change of this magnitude was 1971, when the jerseys worn up until last season were first introduced. In 2002, the Trojans will wear jerseys similiar to those worn by USC teams from 1958-1970. The jersey features a single crescent/stripe on each shoulder pad and numbers on the sleeve (all numbers and stripes on the jerseys are sewn in). There is also an interlocking "SC" logo on the bottom of the neckline. Per tradition, there will be no names on the back of the jersey. Selected jerseys will be available for sale to the public in the fall. The Trojans will debut their new jerseys on Sept. 2 against Auburn at the Coliseum.[/b] GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!
I liked it when we went with no names on the jerseys. Some thought it looked highschoolish, but ND and USC don't have a problem with it and I think most of the high schools now have names on their jerseys. Football is a team sport and as such the names of the individuals is not that important. If a player is worried about a scout not knowing who he is...fear not, if your are good, the scout will figure out who you are. Besides, you sell more programs when the jerseys don't have names on them. ![]()
I like the look of USC's road uni's. Always liked when Trojans are playing at the Rose Bowl and the Bruins have the powder blue's and SC has the White jersey's. The only thing that makes it better is an In-and out burger and Keith Jackon calling the game.
