Is this guy a Bowling Ball or what?

Last season when Martin went down, the Mustangs were short on Beef when it came to Running back. Butler seems to have meat but that might be it. At 5'10", 205 he's pretty big for his height. They have him listed as the 3rd RB, which I would have thought would have gone to Dorsey.

Anyone want to hazard a guess on Butler? Is he there more as a modern fullback? Is he only going to be used for Short Yardage battering-ram duty? Is he faster than his 4.6 40 time? Did SMU just have an extra spot on the roster?

It would be nice to if he turns into a short yardage player for us, but I don't think he'll ever have the speed to take over if Martin goes down again, though perhaps splitting time with Mapps will give us a 1-2 combo if it comes down to that.

From what I've heard, the coaches seem to think he's a very solid RB, not FB. I saw him at practice a few times and he seemed very strong and powerful. Low center of gravity, sort of a slasher type. Seemed to accelerate quickly - sort of a slashing runner. Hands looked pretty decent on the few times I saw him catch the ball.

I don't know but I hope they've gotten around to fixing his profile on smumustangs.com. For the last year it said he's from Brusly, TX. Brusly is in Louisiana. (it's "brew-lee")

Butler, at least to me, is the prototypical SEC back. What he lacks in straight-ahead speed is made up for in his physical running. He signed quietly late last year because he had a serious knee injury in high school. With modern medicine and rehab techniques now employed, he is a great reminder why players injured their senior year are still a viable option if they have the attitude of Butler.

According to his Bruly mentor, Jarrian, Chris has been the man of his house since he was 10 or 11. Look into his grade improvement from one semester to the next if you need an idea of how hard he works and further proof that he is here to handle his business, get a degree, and run over a few people along the way while staying out trouble.

He is my pick for breakout player of the year. As physical as Johnnie Fitz was last year, and pound for pound the toughest guy on the team, he may not run away from people, but by the time this guy is a senior and getting a bulk of the carries, his real value will be obvious when he wears opponents down.

Your description reminds me of Emmitt Smith. I hope he pushes DeMyron as well. I would love to see 800+ yard seasons from both or either these guys. Will take the pressure off of the passing game, and that makes Willis uber-dangerous in my mind.

Not true. They had Richuel at FB at one point.

Bennett just needs to move him to LB, then Slot WR, then back to RB and then tell us how wonderful a RB he is, shouldn't have ever moved him...

Your absolutely right that he has forgotten more than we'll ever know because he is...oh, I don't know....A COACH and is in the coaching profession!!
