D Magazine writer takes swipe at SMU football

Postby Longtime » Wed Jun 20, 2007 12:14 pm

Saw this posted today on D's "Frontburner" blog. Usually, the D guys are fair to SMU sports because at least a couple of their top editors are Mustangs. Paul Kix must not be one of them. Judge for yourself whether it's even worth responding to:

HERE'S SOME NEWS: SOUTHLAKE CARROLL IS STILL AWESOME
In the Sports Illustrated hitting shelves today, Southlake Carroll is named the eighth-best high school athletic program in America and the best in Texas. No. 4 on the national list? Miami Northwestern, whose football team Carroll will play this September at SMU. No doubt the best game you'll see at Gerald J. Ford Stadium all year.

Well, until we play some football in December, we're going to have to own up to it. This is the best chance to do it.

That mag has one writer (a Mustang, come to think of it) worth reading, and to the best of my knowledge, he doesn't waste his time on that "look how clever I think I am!" blog. Don't know Paul Kix, and don't care to, any more than I care to ever purchase or read that society catalog.

I don't take anything that magazine says seriously, especially when it comes to sports. It's just a magazine for the trendy wanna-be socialites in this city. So they can know where all the cool kids go. Best game of the year at Ford is going to be Sept. 3rd when we beat Tech on national TV.

I'd give the guy my "up yours" emoticon, but he isn't worth it.
What a rube.

That is such Junior Varsity comment by Paul Kix. He is one of those people that probably said the same thing about Reunion Arena and proceeded to trash the Mavericks, and then years later he was paying top dollar for a Mavericks ticket. Kix probably name drops all the people he saw at the Mavericks game when you wouldn't have found him dead at a Mavs game a few years ago. Our football team is already on the upswing so his comment in a lot of circles is a little dated.
