Pye is gone...most of the ridiculous constrainst to recruiting are gone and this team and coaching staff are trying very hard to take this program to the next level.

Yeah, well the next level is getting over .500 after twenty years of pathetic football, and nobody except Mike Cavan has been able to do it. Once. I could not care less what you think of my support of this team PK, I am out there ever game cheering for the impossible like everybody else on this board, which is more than most of the blue hairs the Mustang Club caters to can say. Be realistic for once in your life sunshine and maybe you'd know my frustration.

Like the shark avatar. Does it do anything else besides look angy and wage the tail back and forth? Can it fetch? Roll over? Play dead (I guess a fishing net would be needed)?

No, it was just the best I could do after Big10ponyguy or whatever his name was before he entered the witness protection program took to calling me Jaws because of my profession. I had a cartoonish shark for a couple of days but PK did not like it so I switched.

Witness protection? Maybe he was trying to get the FBI in on Tony Soprano.

And be nice to the blue hairs...most of them are quite fun and have great knowledge and stories to share...I just hope I live long enough to be one... :D

yes, by all means...be nice to the "blue hairs". Most of those die hards have been through a lot more than any of us and without their contributing the kind of $$ I can only dream of contributing...well, we might already be competing at the Division III level (that's NO scholarships, folks)

I just wish we had private boxes for them at Moody like we do at Ford...so nobody notices when they take a day/night off from attending.

Your hatred -- I personally think it's a mancrush -- for Bennett aside, your support for the program has as much charm as the plague.

He's been supporting the program by posting about it on this board for far longer than a guy who's been around since May.

Let me repeat, I would like NOTHING BETTER than 12-0 and a bowl.

Or 8-4, and a bowl.

Or perhaps even 7-5, and a bowl.

But, if we don't go AT LEAST 7-5, where will any recruiting momentum come from?

Everyone forgets the 0-12 team that Bennett led us to...that KILLED his recruiting over 4 years ago.

At the end of the day, if we go 6-6 or worse, all I said was we should have fired him LAST YEAR rather than wait another year only to then fire him in 2007.

Jeez...

We should be 2-1 going into TCU, but god forbid we go 1-2 or 0-3...

Is it going to take 0-3 for EVERYONE on this board to open their eyes???

The only justifiable defense is that, against some of 'our' better judgement that Bennett was the best man for the job at that point. Can't look at it as a year lost because we kept him, but why cut him loose and hire another pedestrian Big 12 assistant or 1AA coach? If Phil does get the job done (at least to take the next step) great, everybodys reasonably happy.

If he doesn't, and gets canned by the new administration after this season, one extra year in the grand scheme of things won't make or break the program. Maybe Orsini can lure someone of better quality with another year under his belt. Maybe there are more desireable candidates that would be interested after the year. I won't blindly walk into the sunrise of 2007 going gee Phil is the man to lead SMU back to a national championship, but I do think it is reasonable to believe that he was the best option to coach SMU in 2007 and try to take the next step.

It is one thing to be critical of the program and not be a fan of the coach -- and I think Phil has messed up some things that really put us a couple of years behind (Handling Eckert and Romo was a disaster).

But based his handle, these posts and the lengths that he will go to illustrate it, it's getting a little pathetic. It reveals someone who so swept up in his vendetta that he is either incapable or refuses to see other points of view. He'll argue for the sake of arguing.

The mindless rant on the 1st and 2nd half stats for Justin Willis on the football page defines this obssession. I'd like to remind the gentleman that Mr. Willis was a REDSHIRT FRESHMAN, FOR GOD SAKES -- and that I would hope that as he matures through this program so will his gaem.

But he'll defend himself about hoping that SMU goes 12-0 and goes to a bowl. It's time to stop insulting this audience.

There's a part of me that truly believes that if SMU ever went 12-0, he'd be quick to point out something that was going badly because somebody's yards per carry average is only 3.8 when it should be 4.0 because the left guard isn't pulling like he should be.

We all can express frustrations and disappointments, but this is really getting out of hand.

And he'll go on and on and on from now to however long Phil Bennett is here and this process will continue to be recycled and will continue to be tiresome.

I think he has issues and doesn't know how to deal with them.

Frankly, I feel sorry for him.

You have a goofy posting name too, general, and you're clearly pathetically obsessed with an egomaniacal dead WWII figure. And you need to get off your high horse. You are not the opinion police.

You are mindless. With regard to first/second half stats: I am talking about Slater's first and second half stats for ONE game - at UTEP - a game for which he was berated for 'sucking' in.

I have no problem with you. I find you to be very engaging and you have some pretty good one-liners. But this is a board where opinions are expressed, and I will go after those whose agendas are pretty transparent.

He calls me mindless. What's goofy is his handle. Ridiculous.

And the by the way, Patton was one of the best field commanders this country has ever seen in its history -- next to George Washington and William Tecumseh Sherman. Ask the Italians and the Third Reich how it worked out for them when he whipped their a$$e$ from north Africa, through Sicily and into Europe.

And he was right about going after the Soviets too before Washington DC stepped in and decided to continue to dance with the devil.

Rommel, you magnificent X$%^&X, I read your book!!
