Probably more SMU students wear Notre Dame items than SMU items!

I think they're called undergrads.

Win in basketball and every gang banger in south Dallas will be wearing SMU hats. Aren't many ghetto kids attending Georgetown, but walk through SE Washington and count the Hoya hats.

Sure seems to work for U.T. I've never seen so many people wearing that school's stuff and the majority of them never went there and/or have never even set foot on the campus or attended one of their games. And a lot of 'em can't even speak English.

How many Notre Dame hats, shirts, sweatshirts, etc. do you see in Texas compared to those of UT's? I guarantee you...UT is outselling Notre Dame in Texas by a looooonng shot. You don't see Pancho or Jose wearing Notre Dame gear while he's mowing your yard...he's wearing UT stuff.

I'm hedging my bets on nationally where back east and in the midwest it's a sea of 'fans' of Notre Dame. Notre Dame this, Notre Dame that, Rudy this, Rudy that. At least in Texas, Texas is the state school. So even if you don't go there, there are comprehensible reasons as to why you'd wear the hat.

But Notre Dame? The small Catholic school in a small Indiana town? Where do the thousands of people sporting Notre Dame gear all around develop this special bond with a school they have nothing to do with? The Catholic church? Rudy? Every football game they ever play on NBC? It's ridiculous

The rumor that the Holy Father has a Fighting Irish mitre for fall Saturday mass is unsubstantiated. Although JPII was well known for taking the over versus USC.

Maybe that should be part of the marketing effort. Get an alum, or start a fund that will produce some simple SMU shirts and hats that will be given away to every Tom [deleted] and Harry in the metroplex, or maybe Juan, Jesus and Jorge. At least the name will be out there for people to see.
The donkey's name is Kiki.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.

Would not hurt to get our Hollywood alums to wear them on TV or movies. I am sure the Little Rock market is booming since I wear mine around town, and Ponyte and Arkpony are legends in Arkansas.

I have done that. I don't know if they wear it every day (I gave them lots of shirts and caps/visors) but every Wednesday when they pull up to the house they unload and every one of them has on their SMU gear - the white shirts, of course, for summer. When they're raking leaves, in cool weather, they wear their red stuff. Not sure they know what "S.M.U." stands for, but they're sure eager to get "new" gear.

Why not start with the grounds crew at SMU? Put them in SMU t-shirts instead of the uniforms that they wear...........

Fat chance. They don't even put one on when you hand them a free one.[/b]

That's the problem. Charge them $250.00 each and they will buy and wear them.

According to the Collegiate Licensing Company, from January 1 through March 31, 2007, the top selling schools were:

(1.) Texas
(2.) Notre Dame
(3.) Florida
(4.) Michigan
(5.) Georgia
(6.) North Carolina
(7.) Alabama
(8.) Penn State
(9.) Oklahoma
(10.) Tennessee
(11.) LSU
(12.) Florida State
(13.) Auburn
(14.) Nebraska
(15.) Wisconsin

Other schools of note:
(18.) Arkansas
(25.) Oklahoma State
(30.) Texas Tech
(44.) Boise State
(47.) Montana (I sure don't get that one)
(50.) Marshall
(57.) TCU
(62.) East Carolina
(63.) Memphis
(65.) UTEP
(66.) Central Florida
(68.) Baylor
(70.) Houston
(71.) Tulane

SMU is not listed in the Top 75. However, something must be up because Texas A$M is not on the list either. Does aggy have some different deal? Based on observation, they sell a lot of that maroon crap.
