not all of UP is dry - certain areas are "wet" - among those areas are the Village, where Bank of America is located at Mockingbird and Preston, where the Meadows Building is located and I think at Preston and NW Highway - these were "wet" areas before prohibition and continue to be "wet" to this day --
no big 12 teams are allowed to sell alcohol on campus or at games.. matter of fact i would be surprised if any BCS conferences are allowed.. i could be wrong though
If you're referring to some of the eateries in Snider Plaza - and elsewhere in UP - where you can have a mixed drink, beer or wine that's because those establishments have a 'private club' license issued thru TABC (Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission). A patron is supposed to show a Unicard to the waiter or bartender before the beverage is purchased.
Preston Center is actually in the city of Dallas. That's why you'll see Dallas police cars patrolling that area instead of UP police cars. However, Preston Road which runs down the middle of Preston Center is in UP. If there's a motor vehicle accident on Preston Road south of Northwest Highway, it's investigated by UP police. Highland Park Village, on the southwest corner of Mockingbird and Preston Road, is in Highland Park, not UP.
It seems that the "peak Blvd. time" is the last 30 minutes before kickoff.
I suppose that is because so many people arrive for the game and do not allot enough time for the Blvd. Then they start having such a good time that they are reluctant to leave a packed party scene on the Blvd for a half empty stadium. It will be difficult to change until we start winning. "THE SMU BLVD - - NO PLACE ELSE" (retired)
Preston Center on the east side of Preston Road is in UP. I've never been asked for a unicard at any of the UP places I've been in...which is why the "private club" deal is so ridiculous.
The Meadows Building is in Dallas...not UP.
The areas i said earlier are "wet" areas not all of the Park Cities are "wet" - just those areas that were "wet" prior to Prohibition - (the Village, where Bank of America and there is one area on Preston Road that is in UP that is "wet" Nothing in Synder Plaza is wet it is private club
Yep. Kinda pointless when you can walk across Mockingbird and get as much as you like, but UP is dry, as well as the campus.
Hey jtstang: I was born before we started winning and I actually was witness to the Pony Express. Don't start lecturing me. After the DP, every athletic department employee walked around feeling like a second class citizen and Copeland did nothing to change that. Orsini has people believing it is okay to win and feel good about it. I am just getting a discussion going and so far some of our posters have some really good ideas. The best idea is to put a winning football team on the field and you won't even acknowledge it. Orsini should convince the team it is okay to win.
No D1 team sells beer inside of their stadium, so that fix is out the window. And you're not alone in fighting the "come inside and watch the game" battle. Many BCS schools (LSU, UT, Tennessee, USC to name a few) have fans who come out specifically for the pregame festivities and nothing more. Some are girls who have no interest in football but a lot of interest in tailgating. Then there are the guys with no interest in football but a lot of interest in the girls with no interest in football.
![]() Put a winning product on the field and your walk up crowd will fill in the empty spaces in your stadium.
Maybe it has changed but when I went to Vegas for the SMU/UNLV game years ago, I bought mixed drinks in the stadium. Thats not beer but it is close. And I think I heard many of our Tulane travelers talk about buying beer in the Superdome. Better take that Civil Service exam again.
Okay, whatever you say chief. "Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion" - Rudy T.
I suppose you've never been to a Tulane game, which has alcohol vendors throughout the concourse. Doesn't help their attendance much, though. Regarding the 'winning product,' what was the deal at Fouts when NTSU was winning all those Lone Star Conference championships? Weren't there still empty spaces?
