Many BCS schools (LSU, UT, Tennessee, USC to name a few) have fans who come out specifically for the pregame festivities and nothing more. Some are girls who have no interest in football but a lot of interest in tailgating. Then there are the guys with no interest in football but a lot of interest in the girls with no interest in football. Put a winning product on the field and your walk up crowd will fill in the empty spaces in your stadium.
I suppose you've never been to a Tulane game, which has alcohol vendors throughout the concourse. Doesn't help their attendance much, though. Regarding the 'winning product,' what was the deal at Fouts when NTSU was winning all those Lone Star Conference championships? Weren't there still empty spaces?
Yeah when we were winning the Big XII (we all know it was really the Sun Belt but I can be sarcastic just like you...aren't I cool?) there were still empty spaces. And I was under the impression that nobody sold alcohol. Could it be because it's the superdome and not a college's on campus stadium? My point was that even the "big boys" share this problem. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm sure it could be, but it flies in the face of your statement that, "...No D1 team...."

UofH sells beer in their games and Robertson Stadium is located on campus. Just an FYI.

That's because all of Houston is wet. Something I never understood about Dallas when I came to SMU as a freshman and still don't to this day.

...but there's not any zoning in Houston. That's why you'll find a car repair shop next door to a church or a restaurant next door to a refinery.

MrMustang1965,
What does zoning and being allowed to sell liquor have anything to do with each other? Yes, we do have topless bars next door to day cares, but wet versus dry is a totally separate deal. I love Dallas and miss it very much, but the one thing I enjoy about Houston is where there is a party there is going to be liquor. In Dallas it was always beer and wine but no liquor. Perhaps the corporate cultures are different in Houston and Dallas. Excuse me for digressing. To get back on point. Dry areas must be a religous/civic fiber that Houston lacks or has never had.
