re-post your article by cut/paste...your link won't work because the Waco Tribune uses auto-generating URLs.

i think this is it...

Morriss angered by ‘unacceptable’ play
By JERRY HILL Tribune-Herald assistant sports editor
Guy Morriss isn't going to panic or "make wholesale changes" after an embarrassing 52-14 loss to North Texas.

But the first-year Baylor head coach did nothing to hide the frustration from six first-half turnovers and a total meltdown in the second half of Saturday night's game at Fouts Field in Denton.

"I've said it to them about a hundred times: 'When you get so tired of getting your rear end beat, then we'll start doing something about it.' ” Morriss said Sunday. "But it's hard. You're looking at 17 (wins) in seven years. That's what you're trying to overcome is that mindset."

Because of the fragile nature of a team that's gone through seven consecutive losing seasons, Morriss said, "old habits start to creep back in."

"If we get beat by a better team, I can accept that," he said. "But to get beat the way we did last night with turnovers and miscues and lack of effort, that's just unacceptable. That drives me crazy. You don't give yourself a chance."

More than the six first-half turnovers and the 17-0 hole the Bears dug for themselves, Morriss said the defining moment came on the first play of the second half.

UNT freshman Johnny Quinn recovered a high kickoff that landed short and bounced by up-back Anthony Krieg and returner J.T. Thompson, setting up a 13-yard touchdown run by Roy Bishop that "took the wind right out of our sails."

Morriss said he was infuriated when the kickoff return team walked back on the field the next time.

"That just absolutely incenses me," said Morriss, who fell to 0-2 with the loss. "There was the first sign that we're going in the tank. And I'm not putting up with that. Our kids have got to understand how to take care of the details, because that's what's killing us.

"I can run them all day, and we can do up-downs until the world looks level. But if it's not important to them, we're not going to win another game. And for some reason, they just don't seem to get it."

While the offense played its part in the collapse, turning it over on six consecutive series in a 20-minute stretch, the defense had its own problems in the second half. North Texas put together back-to-back six-minute scoring drives and rolled up 260 yards in the second half.

"Their offensive line wore us out, pure and simple," Morriss said. "We had guys that were slow to get into position. It seems like we were always a half a step late. And then when we got there, we got run over. We didn't bring a lot of thump at the point of attack."

The Bears' lack of discipline showed with consecutive personal-foul penalties late in the third quarter, when senior linebacker John Garrett was ejected for throwing a punch. His status for Saturday's 6 p.m. game at home against SMU is still in question.

Morriss said the coaching staff will go back to the drawing board this week to "reassess what we're doing and how we're teaching stuff," but ultimately it's up to the players.

"We'll just keep grinding," he said. "And I think our kids have got to understand that that's the way you play this game. It's like we're waiting for somebody to step up and bail us out with a spectacular play. They've got to understand that a game is played over the course of four quarters, and it's a grind. That may sound old-fashioned, but that's the way you win ballgames."

----Bear Facts----

You can trace Baylor's problems all the way back to the start of the game, when power was cut off on the Bears' sidelines, leaving the coaches' headsets inoperable. Then at halftime, they had to move to smaller, auxilary rooms when power was out in the visitors' locker room.

"Queensberry rules say (the North Texas coaches) should have taken their (headsets) off, but they didn't," Morriss said. "I asked the official, 'What makes you think that the power just went off inadvertently? Maybe they unplugged our power.' ”

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
