Back (I think) injuries ended it basically before it began, as I recall -- a real shame, because Ellen was a load in the middle. I'm like you -- I was very excited when he signed with the Ponies.

Carrington is "tired." He's been doing this for five years. Plus, I keep being told they are working harder now than ever before.

He's still enrolled. I consider the possibility that after the summer is over, he could change his mind and come back. Bennett would have to OK it, of course. Would that be fair to the guys that busted their chops over the summer? No. Would he contribute? Yes. Is he needed? Yes.

By the way, hearing Dominic Pryor is done, too.

I would think it should be unfair only to those who commit to 6 years. It is not like the running back we had in my class who had a car that broke down on the way to 2-a-days every year, and took 2 weeks to get repaired.

Just a thought, but perhaps this is simply due to Viloria. In Carrington's case, and by no means am I saying that he can't cut it or doesn't want it, but maybe the fact that Viloria's program is far tougher and the team is much stricter now in this department that Carrington, having other things to look forward to, no longer wanted to, or couldn't fulfill the requirements.

You say you heard Pryor is done, he's going to be a senior who has not seen a great deal of playing time and spent three years under the old regime, and 'maybe' either doesn't want to or can't put in the time anymore. Not saying they can't cut it, but there is a very marked difference in the old program and the new program, and perhaps this is just trimming down on the members of the team who are not putting it what the coaches and training are requireing.

Again, I'm not calling them out but just proposing the thought that the new program is potentially removing those who are not committed to taking the next physical step. A couple months ago talking with my room mate, he said when he arrived at SMU in the summer of 2006 he figured college football must be easy because the training wasn't all that difficult, but when Viloria showed up it was instantly a completely different level, and that it was damn hard all of a sudden.

Anytime you have someone like Coach Viloria come into a program that is totally committed to disipline and a tough weight training program, you are usually going to have some people quit...... Now I'm not saying this is why Carrington quit, but fact is you can expect that it will happen. However, the benefits of a Coach like Vic coming in will be seen on the field this year. No question we will have a better football program in the future because of his hire. Viloria's dedication to seeing SMU develope a Championship program is clear and his program has already worked at other schools.

Carrington has plenty of talent, but we don't need him, he has always been soft and obviously his ticker isn't working to well, "weed'em out Vic" is correct, find me some more of those 5-10 over acheiving linebackers that make plays sideline to sideline

Where do you come up with this stuff? No, you shouldn't have to beg someone to play college football and I haven't heard of anyone begging Reggie to comeback. And as for his playing ability. He was one of the more talented players that I have seen in a while. Dont down play his ability to justify your opinion on where his priorities lie. Go Stangs.

He had one year where he averaged 8 tackles per game, not that impressive from your middle linebacker, 2nd and 3rd team Conference USA (not that big of a deal), he is 6'2 240 lbs- Vic Viloria and others before him would have been in the NFL with size and speed like that.

Could he have helped us- yes. But I had rather not have him on the team if he is not committed and willing to do whatever it takes to win, and I would rather find out now than in the 4th quarter in a football game.
