Another major factor in getting stronger is the added confidence that it gives an athlete. If a football player walks onto the field knowing that they are stronger than their opposition then they have a mental edge over them. Benching 500 does not make a good football player, but it won't hurt.
Maybe we can convince the other team to do a powerlifting meet instead of a football game.
.........Maybe we should just sit on our [deleted] this summer and forfeit all our games this fall.
Being able to bench press 500 lbs. doesn't amount to a chicken [deleted]'s difference if you can't play.
And YOU know that for sure because..........YOU live on a chicken farm and are familiar with the dicks of chickens ...........and ............... YOU can't play FB because...............YOU can bench press 500 lbs........................or because YOU weigh 500 lbs.............or .................because your daddy told YOU the same stupid sh*t........and YOU got your wittle feelings hurt and now.......................... YOU try to debase better men than YOU, or.......................could it be that YOU know nothing at all about Weights, Football, or the dicks of chickens. Idiot.
Anyone that thinks Coach Viloria's workouts are only about "powerlifting"just doesn't understand that it is the total package of strength , speed, and agility along with a positive mental attitude as a team. Just read John Hamptons new pony fans article SUMMER WORKOUTS. John does a great job explaining Valoria's program. If you are still unsure, go watch a summer .workout for yourself as Hampton suggest. I think you will come away realizing that this program can only help our team play better. SMU now has one of the toughest conditioning programs in the country and our kids are obviously prowd to be a part of it. They are seeing the results.
Alright my point got way off track in this thread and probably should be dropped...but:
When De La Salle won over 100 straight games in highschool, it sure as hell wasn't because of their 215 lb lineman's bench press. When the Bronco's had the best line in football, there were also the smallest in the NFL. I agree that benching 500 is a nice milestone and perhaps gives you confidence on the field. My whole point is that I want to see a report on the football skills...I would like to see that D-Martin's 10 or 40 yard has dropped 0.02 or that Given's sparq has increased. Maybe that Bryann McCann's shuttle has improved showing an ability to change directions and keep up with receivers. Demonstrate that as a result of the training the pulling guard can move a little quicker to make a hole. That is what I think matters in football and I am sure Vic has improved these skills as well just would like to see confirmation before we start annointing this an outstanding offseason workout.
