1936 Rotunda

Post by Grider »

So here's what I was talking about in another thread. MM65 this may be right up your alley. You seem to be an aficianado for pop culture.

I noticed that one of the cartoons drawn in the 1936 rotunda was obviously Alfred E. Neuman, but Mad magazine didn't come out with Neuman until the 50's. Did the guy who created Neuman go to SMU? Wikipedia cites some law suits and some other origins of Neuman but I don't know if the rotunda cartoon had anything to do with any of it. Anyway, if anyone is interested, I'll try and scan a copy of the cartoon.

here's the link to Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_E._Neuman

EDIT: This actually references a 1936 picture of Neuman being part of the aforementioned lawsuits. http://www.toonopedia.com/alfred_e.htm interesting.

Interesting! I've never seen a 1936 Rotunda so I was unaware of this.

You were in high school then. Look through your SMU fetish boxes in the attic.
