George of the jungle Patton--
I come over to the pony's board to discuss college football.
There are many good smu football fans who enjoy the same topics,
and I like to read what the smu fans have to say. I have several friends
that graduated from smu, one being a prominate lawyer here in Dallas.
One of my high school buddies, was the FG kicker for Hayden Fry way
back when in the good old days. So, I do like SMU to a certain point.

Georgie, your snide remarks do not bother me at all, in fact, I am impressed with your little pot shots. Just proves to me that you are
worried about the progress North Texas is making here in Texas as well
as the success Coach Dodge will bring to North Texas and to the football
program.

Hiram "Chipper" Johnson

Postby Charlie NT73 » Mon Jul 09, 2007 1:33 pm

was a good friend of mine. I knew Chipper from the first grade. We both attended Clinton P Russell Elem, Boude Storey Jr Hi, and South Oak Cliff.
There was a group of guys that all lived within blocks of each other in
South Oak Cliff, so we were a tight group. We all lost a good friend and
a great guy! Chipper Johnson!

Todd Dodge is a good coach. But North Texas fired a good coach too. He will recruit good I'm sure and his teams will probably play good. But...he said he was doing this at a risk...offering these early offers because he knows, that he has to honor the commitments regardless of who shows up later. While at the same time, if these guys have banner seasons...they may go anywhere. Just wondering why our board is so popular to alumni from another school.....Go Mustangs!!!

ask yourself if Todd Dodge (and for that matter Todd Graham) have gotten some positive press and public comment about their early recruiting. How can that hurt a school like North Texas that usually sweeps up the leftovers and academic risks in late January. It doesn't. Building a Recruiting class is all about momentum.

Late recruiting--

Hey pony fans-
I would guess there are 3 maybe 4 NT fans that come over to your board-
with me being one of the NT fans. I like college football, and I like to see
other fans views and opinions. I am not here to slam you guys, or throw
out really bad insults. My views are mine and mine only, not the entire NT
system, alumni, fan base, etc.
Past recruiting-well you hit the nail on the head. D Dickey did not start
recruiting until Nov/Dec, and yes, his staff would try to get the left overs-
this recruiting practice caught up with DD's system. The talent level
dropped off dramaticly, and you can see the results. The other part of
his downfall, was the fact every team in America, including a few good
junior high school teams, could easily figure out how to defend the DD
power running game, thus creating a need for a pass attack-which never
developed because of the run game failures. DD is a good coach, but somehow too many aspects of his system all came apart at the same time. DD is now the OC at Utah State and I wish him the best!

For us to have a good class...we will have to win at least 8 games and maybe more! Winning games will dictate where recruits go especially if they have openings to be taken by a school that wins. It is a long way to February and I choose not to argue what gets us to that point...just happy to support the mustangs with attitude and vigor. Go Mustangs!!!

I'll caution anyone who makes light of Dodge's recruiting class to remember that long, awful drive back to Dallas after the NTSU loss last year.

The Ponies would be wise to take no team for granted, and we should do the same.
