Notre Dame plans to play to try to make its contests more accessible to fans around the country.
" Notre Dame has never played in San Antonio"
Considering that they've played in Dallas at some point(albeit not recently), they figured they probably wanted to play somewhere where they haven't played before.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame will face Washington State in San Antonio on Oct. 31, 2009. The game at the Alamodome will be the first of annual offsite games Notre Dame plans to play to try to make its contests more accessible to fans around the country. " Notre Dame has never played in San Antonio, so this will be a tremendous opportunity to showcase our program in a new city, and in a state in which we have a strong emphasis in recruiting," Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White said Friday.
Washington State? Were there NO Div 1 teams in Texas that were willing to play them?
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?
Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.

I suspect they had the opponent scheduled for some time and rather than have to deal with a buyout, they probably convinced Wazoo to make the trip to SA.

Remember they were trying to get Baylor to play them in Dallas and have it be a Notre Dame "home" game so NBC got to show it. This may in fact be somewhat good news that Notre Dame is not coming to Dallas to play Baylor. Hopefully it was Orsini who told them, I don't care where you play or who you play as long as you play us if you choose to come to Dallas. You don't want to make an old ND look bad do you?

Was Tokyo or Amsterdam not available on that date ? Maybe they should play in Mexico City and draw > 100,000 fans to the game. What a "gameday" that would be.....

And the country's mysterious blatant man-crush on Touchdown Jesus' school continues.

Yeah, me too. But my guess would be Notre Dame's AD got a message saying "Baylor says no to Dallas. S. Orsini-that guy from the 70s that's at SMU now-says they'd love to play the Irish." Upon reading the messag, Notre Dame AD says, "what's Pullman's area code again?"
