Southern Miss is on there but above us. That would make our record 7-5 but still very much so bowling!
No, I hope that 7-5 Bennett will get to ride his contract out at best, and then not get an extension. That being said, I think Bennett has it in him to do better than 7-5. Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
7-5 with a bowl saves PBNot that I am in favor of this mind you, but a 7-5 record witih a bowl game will save PB's job. Hayden Fry got fired after a winning season and the record got worse after he left. Some people will remember that era and will say that SMU can't do that again.
Sam I Am
Not many of us left from that era, and even fewer that still care. I guarantee that Bennett is more popular than Hayden was at that time. If you think Bennett doesn't have anything to say accept it is the coaches fault, Hayden could fill a room with excuses.
Don't wanna be all sunshiny, or start WWIII or get 20 years worth of frustration crammed down my throat, but honestly asking when was the last time a quote like this appeared with SMU?
"Bottom line - The Cougars will not be as strong as they were in ‘06, but the rest of the division, save for SMU, will be weaker." This is from footballworld.com which also had this to say about SMU "2) SOUTHERN METHODIST - The Mustangs have not been to a bowl game since 1984, but came "oh-so-close" last year. All they needed was a victory over Rice in the season finale, but the Owls hit paydirt with just over four minutes left to pull out the four-point win. Strength - Mark it down, SMU will lead the conference in scoring. Quarterback Justin Willis had a phenomenal freshman season completing 67% with 26 TDs. Both numbers topped Kevin Kolb’s freshman campaign. Weakness - The defensive line, which held the rest of the league to 106 rushing yards per game, returns just one starter. Bottom line - This will be the year the Mustangs reach .500 with a 7-5 record and five conference wins. In addition, they will finally get their long awaited trip to a bowl game. SMU was undefeated as a home favorite in ’06 and will continue that streak with five more this season."
I just hope that our staff understands that we need to outscore our opposition, not try to keep them from scoring. They need a mindset that we need to score over 35pnts to win any game--almost wish Rossley could help.
re: "almost wish Rossley could help"
Yeah I wish Team Rossley was the offensive coordinator under Bennett. ![]() C-ya @ Milos!
Hopefully the writer has a better understanding of football than he does math.
