Road Report......SMU Shelf Space

Postby Insane_Pony_Posse » Sat Jul 21, 2007 4:48 pm

Today I was at the Finish Line store at Willow Bend Mall in Plano.

I went in and saw the regular UT, Texas A&M, Baylor, Big 12 t-shirts,
plus schools like Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, Florida and TCU.

There was not a single SMU item in the store, which
of course is no big surprise.

Then I noticed there were a stack of UC Santa Cruz t-shirts.

I diplomatically asked the manager "why in the Dallas metroplex
they would stock UC Santa Cruz t-shirts but not a single SMU item"?

I said "how could demand for UC Santa Cruz be alot bigger
than SMU right here in the Dallas metrolex"?

He seemed frustrated and said "you know I just don't know....I
have people often asked me for SMU t-shirts/ect but for some reason
we just do not stock them
". He even apologized and seemed sincere.
The store manager said he would love to be able to offer SMU items
since customers are asking for it. Then he said he would again pass
the word along to the regional managers.

I think that UCSC gets shelf space from the absurdity of their Mascott.

Good call — I'm sure there's a huge demand for UCSC "Banana Slugs" gear.

Thanks for the update. I need to update my SMU wardrobe for the season. Living in Frisco, I'm going ot try the ACADEMY in Plano off the Tollway.

Preston in Plano yesterday. Ohio St. and Michicgan too. Don't
remember seeing any SMU, TT, Baylor, or OU stuff.

The Steve and Barrys at the sketchy mall (aka Valley View Mall), had a couple of shirts. The Sweatshirts with "Southern Methodist" stiched in were decent, and they had a grey shirt with a Blue Peruna on it. And of course a bunch of other crap that I did't care for.
