Well actually I said that Gore's film should be required viewing. Heck look at the mini-debate it fired up here, and I'm not sure if anybody has actually seen it! I don't understand why anyone would see this as a political issue either. I certainly wasn't trying to make any sort of - again - political statement by urging that folks see it. Yes the guy that presents the information is the former Democratic Vice President and Senator Al Gore, but you'd have to be hiding in a forest not to know that his undying passion is, and has always been, for the environment - heck we used his 1992 book in high school debate.

The issue, shouldn't be about who presents the information, nor what a political party says what to think about the issue - the issue, at it's very core is the future of our planet... and even if you want to try and debunk global warming all you want - what's wrong with going green? We're gonna' run ourselves out of gas someday anyhow.

But I digress... please return to the bottled water discussion.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, and just for FordtoTolbert, I'm probably voting for Obama... on the other side of the aisle, on most issues wouldn't mind seeing Giuliani do well, but for his atrocious record on civil liberties... Edwards would be fine, but he spent the last four years out of political life (and, by the same token, you could argue that Obama hasn't had enough political experience). Best thing about Hillary would be Bill as First Man... dude, their would be some bitchin' parties at the White House.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did not mean for this to spark a political furor... I'm just saying see the movie. (And yes, though I also enjoy Michael Moore's work, I wouldn't recommend to those on this board seeing it, because I don't like getting into politics on this board.) So see it or don't see it... to get my drift the only other films I've ever, in the past, recommended be required viewing for all humans would be Apocalypse Now and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Apocalypse Now because of the tortured corners of the human spirit, and 2001 for the triumph of that same spirit.

Oh, and Fletch.

Well you said you didn't want to get into a debate so I'll just say that I give Gore credit because he is truly passionate about something he believes in. It's not well the Democrats like this or this will beat the Republicans, but he truly believes we'll all fry on this planet unless we do something now, and I can respect a politician for diving in for something he really believes in.

Blah Blah Blah-Does Gore believe it? People who live in 14,000 sq. ft houses and fly in private aircraft can keep thier global warmimg theorys to themselves.
I love how Edwards and Gore all have Prius parked in the driveway with 32 miles still on the odometer.

There has been so much debate within the science community about where this issue is. To me, it renders the movie irrelevant.

I will say that we should be a little smarter to protect the plant with recycling, etc. But the earth goes back 1,000s of years so we only have a finite amout of data that can suggest trends.

The internal debate will continue for years and years and years.

But Al Gore is a nut.

I might be wearing a camel pack filled with ice cold water. It will hopefully cool my back and give me water to drink.

Gore's movie is leftist propaganda. Ditto for anything Moore puts out.
I don't need to see it to know that, thank you.

Obama's a political toddler, yet he has more experience v. hill..amazing. So..all these freakin' years of recycling my trash, mulching, paper or plastic, plant a tree, earth day, green day, unleaded gas, eco cars, reuse this, reuse that, new detergents, pump v. aresal, etc., etc., etc..blah blah..and now some yoo yoo with a 7000 sq. ft. house who burns 25X more energy than me, with his private jets and 8 SUV security rides and 5 computers in his office with mounds and mounds of paper is going to tell me how to live? tell me to cut back? really?!? Amd edwards...mr. poverty, 25,000 sq, ft. house, 9000 sq ft. beach pad, a freakin' runway in his back yard with 3 jets wants to talk about poverty in america?? Give me rudy or fred, I will sleep better at night...and, while I'm at it, Hillary, my church day care and pre school does NOT need your government involvement, ok! God bless America. Got to go, heading down to Cuba for surgery.

Me too.

By the way, another great film I'd like to recommend is Swimming Pool, starring the lovely Ms. Ludivine Sagnier:

Really an amazing masterpiece by the underrated Francois Ozon.

.................................................

Also, I'd love to recommend another great film in my library, Hard Boiled, the final 45 minute action sequence is pure specatacle:

Image

..................................................

A brilliant (and little known) Kubrick film:

Image

Really a must see!

General Broulard:Colonel Dax! You will apologize at once or I shall have you placed under arrest!
Colonel Dax: I apologize... for not being entirely honest with you. I apologize for not revealing my true feelings. I apologize, sir, for not telling you sooner that you're a degenerate, sadistic old man. And you can go to hell before I apologize to you now or ever again!

(Colonel Dax... a bravura tour de force acting role by Kirk Douglas)

.....................................................

While we're at it, the greatest film entrance of all time, and one of the great films of all time:

Image

Wow. Also, in my top ten films ever made! Brilliant stuff by Carol Reed (though Wells's fingerprints are all over it!)... and Graham Greene's script.... bloody brilliant.

.....................................................

Just turned to my left and saw two more must see films:

Lest I forget, my favorite film -

Thad, you're my hero. Outside of Austin, I'm not sure anyone in Texas has seen An Inconveient Truth. Kudos to the other recs too. Have you seen Tsotsi? Or perhaps Avenue Montaigne or The Science of Sleep? For fear of reprisals, I'd recommend you just send me a message :)
