Offensive & Defensive Lines

we all know how much depends on the big guys up front and I've been waiting for years to see a 2-deep dominated by upperclassmen. My thinking has been that once the program matures to a point where most of the guys up front are in their 4th or 5th years here, that we would see significant improvement.

Should be interesting to see if the offense improves, with some talented skill guys playing behind a line that (if you include the TE position) might feature 9 of 12 spots occupied by upperclassmen. If nothing else, these guys should be more physically mature than what we've had in the past and hopefully they will know their schemes and really come together as a unit.

Much has been said about the defensive front where 5 of 8 in the 2-deep will be FR (at least they have benefit of their RS year to gain strength). We might be in for some real track meet this year. As someone so astutely observed on another thread, as long as we can outscore them, the W is ours.

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic and predict these guys, especially the offense, will key SMU's 2nd winning season since the death penalty

I agree about the O-line. I like that we have 4 of 5 starters returning on the line that pushed the score up last year. Sure, we're a bit undersized on the line, but they've shown that they can get it done as Jrs, and I can't wait to see what they can do as Srs. I can't hazard a guess as to who it might be, but I'll predict one of our offensive linemen makes it to 1st team all CUSA at the end of the season.

Next year we should have a solid group in the middle, but who is gong to take over the tackle spots?

I am not going to comment on this years line but again beat the drum for recruiting 40% BIG MEN in every class. We need to stack these guys deep.

Around 30 players on the team need to be linemen and with 9 making first team that only gives two deep plus a young gun that is developing per position. ( 27)

I really like the move for Enright to go to center. Think that's a good place for him. Great leader.

Sarge...Enright's always been a center. They may have looked at him at guard, but he was recruited to play center, where he played at Southlake. What they did do is move Ben Poynter over from Center to Tackle to accomodate Enright, and to solidify the tackle spot

actually I think I remember Enright did not play Center in the games I watched Southlake play. He has the prototype center build for College and that's why he was projected as a College Center.

He was a guard at Carroll who could also play center.

I spoke with Berkner Coach Jim Ledford and he says the Ponies have a real stud in Josh LaRibeus. He seems like a smart kid too.

ahh...that does make sense, but I do remember him being recruited to play center at SMU
