A New Hope...

Postby PhirePhilBennett » Wed Jul 25, 2007 4:36 am

Tech ranked sixth in the Big 12 last season in total defense (333.5 yards allowed per game) and eighth in scoring defense (25.1 points allowed per game). Tech led the Big 12 in pass defense last season (182.4) but ranked 10th in rush defense (151.1).

There are several holes to fill this fall. Tech returns only five defensive starters.

Nice signature. Take a lot of thought to come up with that?

Yes, Techs D is a little iffy this year compared to past years but its their O that is the big problem. Sure, we could run on them all day but can we score with them all day.

Since the thread is about hope, I'm hoping that replacing 4 of 5 on the offensive line will slow down their offense a bit. I know that our DL is the subject of more speculation, but If Muse can get in the back field a few times and force Harrell into a bad throw or two...

Eh, now I'm just getting silly.

But I really think it's going to be a down year for tech and this is the best chance we're going to have at the for a while.

Having only five returning starters after that kind of season could be good news. Tech will be younger in the front 7, but should be more talented. The real concern on defense is the interior. Tech has solid starters but no experienced depth. A few injuries there could seriously hamper the run defense. The secondary is experienced and solid.

As for the offensive line, I have no worries there. Some new faces, but many of the guys coming back have experience and there's a lot of good talent waiting in the wings, including Highland Park product Chris Olsen.
