Reports of Baylor v. Notre Dame in IrvingIrish expected to play Baylor in Arlington in 2012
By WENDELL BARNHOUSE When Baylor faces Notre Dame in 2012, the game more than likely will be played at the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington. Sources said Wednesday that Notre Dame and the Cowboys have exchanged documents regarding the Oct. 6, 2012, game played at the NFL facility. Notre Dame is the home team in the one-game contract with Baylor. Notre Dame is expected to make an announcement about playing the game in Arlington in the next few days. A year ago, Notre Dame announced it wanted to start playing one of its seven home games at neutral sites around the country. Recently, Notre Dame announced it would play Washington State at San Antonio's Alamodome on Oct. 31, 2009. Notre Dame, one of three Division I-A independents, also plans to play an opponent to be determined in Orlando's Citrus Bowl in 2011 and 2014. Wendell Barnhouse, 817-390-7760

I'm actually glad we didn't get this game now. Being visitors to ND 15 miles from campus would be pitiful. Still haven't figured why Washington St. and ND are playing in San Antonio.
Re: Reports of Baylor v. Notre Dame in Irving
oh yeah, why? we will be visitors in our own stadium on Labor Day. And it won't be the first time. by the way, who cares who they call the home team when you play at an NFL stadium anyway? Does it matter? i think anybody who would not want to play Notre Dame in the Dallas Cowboys new stadium, which will probably be the best venue in the world (at least for awhile) is CRAZY. Nucking Futs. Just imagine if you actually fielded a competitive team and played well. Its the ultimate program building opportunity. For whatever reason Baylor has the opportunity because they got it done and SMU didnt. thank god the Frogs didnt get it either, they would have been insufferable.
Re: Reports of Baylor v. Notre Dame in Irving
We won't be the visitors. We will have a strong contingent supporting the Mustangs at Ford that Monday. Why wouldn't it be pitiful? To be visitors to a team from Indiana on practically your own turf is bending over backwards for a team. We need 1-and-1 deals, [deleted] for tat. We want to be a winning program and winning programs don't let outsiders come to be home team on their turf. It may mean nothing but a little black and white on paper, but if you're going to play in Dallas against SMU you better be the visiting team. I'm against the idea of SMU bending over backwards to kiss another team's [deleted] just for fame and fortune, no matter what the venue, school, or opportunity. Doesn't matter what you get from it you still had to kiss [deleted] to get it.
Its Notre Dame.
Didn't we give A&M a two for one, which might turn out to be a two for none if they buy us out? The aggies aint notre dame. Plus it has nothing to do with kissing butt. Notre Dame needs it to be declared a home game so it can be on NBC. When we have our own network or when somebody actually cares about us again, we can worry about labels and who wears the dark jerseys instead of the whites. if we had a chance to play notre dame and passed because we had to be labeled the visitors, then whoever at smu made that call should pack their bags right now. I'm pretty sure no AD in their right mind would do that, so its nothing but a completely theoretical point.
Re: Reports of Baylor v. Notre Dame in Irving
Baylor "got (gets) it done" because they were included in the Big 12, reaping millions every year for doing nothing.
Just for the sake of accuracy...the Baylor alum governor was Ann Richards...so that coffee would have been for her...not him. ![]()
Times have changed since the deal with the Aggies was struck. NBC is not Notre Dame's own network. NBC just carries all of Notre Dame's home games. Why degrade ourselves into playing anywhere against anybody just for a buck? If we are going to play so close to campus, why not be the home team? If we were anywhere else in the state or region, I might be up for the idea, but it's 15 miles from campus. If it were our only chance at getting on TV, it would be a different matter. If it were our only chance at climbing out of obscurity, it would be a different matter.
The Big XII is covered on ABC and Fox if I recall. SMU is covered on ESPN and CSTV. The problem might be that if we did a one and done game at ND, ESPN would have no problems because it really was at South Bend. But to play us in our own city and call it a home game for ND might have somehow violated our contracts with ESPN and CSTV. Can't say for sure, but otherwise why would we not have gotten it done with a ND alum as our AD? Orsini is going to have to explain how this one got away. I mean it gives Baylor and ND a recruiting opportunity in our town, and they don't even have the courtesy to give us a reach around. In my view this is Orsini's first black-eye.
