So clanging tea cups together with pinkies raised? What do you have against the theory of noise at a football game? Wouldn't be nice to have UP file a nosie complaint rather than being able to hear Aunt Sally's brownie recipe from two sections away?

I can't believe I'm saying this..but, I TOTALLY agree with Stallion, I think the cowbells are weak. I was at 2 games last year and thought it was junior highish. Surely we can come up with something better?? How 'bout some good old fashion screaming, yelling ,clapping and whistling? Long Live Bobby Collins.

Let's bring cash registers and ring up a sale after every first down.

Now we're being critical of how people choose to show their spirit? Could you possibly nit pick anything else?

Reminds me of a humorous walk I had back to my car a couple of years ago, after the Tulsa overtime win. I always park in the neighborhood across Mockingbird, and as I approached my car one kind older lady asked, "who won?" before I could answer, her friend chimed in, "who played?" I partly assumed that she (hopefully) meant who did SMU play

To be honest I think any sort of noise would be greatly appreciated in that stadium...Students can't make all the noise to fill the stadium and the home guests are just so...dadgum quiet.

All noise is good. Cowbells, those inflatable noise sticks (or whatever they're called), pound on the bleachers — doesn't matter. Hell, break out the plastic horns they have at European soccer matches.

Make Ford Stadium LOUD.

re: "No they didn't invent cowbells but they have a 70 year head start on SMU"

Uh oh.....
Ole Miss had a head start on SMU on the tailgate we patterned
after "The Grove" ......ummmm maybe we should pack it
up and cancel "The BLVD"..... after all..... a tailgate like that
belongs down in Mississippi not at a "Country Club Private School"!

[quote="Stallion"]No they didn't invent cowbells but they have a 70 year head start on SMU.

For that matter, we didn't invent the game of football either. As a result, I guess we shouldn't play the game.

I readily admit that I did not come up with the cowbell idea on my own. I actually stole it from a different school than Tech, but I don't think it really matters for the point of this disucssion.

The problem at SMU is a lack of noise. Even if all 12K of us stood up and screamed at the top of our lungs we wouldn't make enough noise to make a difference. Therefore we need a little help. Enter the cowbell idea.

I completely understand that some do not like the bells, but you know what, I really don't care because I am trying to make a small amount of difference.

I normally hand out at least 100 a game and it takes me less than an hour to find 100 takers. As soon as people stop taking and using them, I will stop handing them out.

The other option would be to come up with another idea, but good luck finding something another doesn't already use. I am all for some other noise maker as long as I can afford to hand out enough every game.

Sports is all about copying other teams traditions. But more importantly, the cowbells aren't for us or even the college kids. I am all for a cowbell for every little kid to bang away on. It makes noise for the team and it makes the kids love the experience and seriously what better way to ensure that the seats get filled than having kids pestering their fathers to go to the game.

rjhiii - hit me up with a PM and I will donate to the cause.

Now that's funny!
