Clearly during your sabbatical (or highly touted, but fake, permanent departure, whichever) you missed the webmaster's edict about not copying full articles onto this website. It is only okay to post links and/or snippits, but not full articles, MrMustangH2O.

from the DMN:

SMU rejected a proposal Wednesday that would have allowed a dozen university employees and a handful of architects with knowledge about the George W. Bush Presidential Library to be quizzed confidentially about the university's plans.

Meanwhile, the university's attorney confirmed that a formal announcement about the library could come as soon as mid-September.

Ousted condo owner Gary Vodicka offered the proposal as part his long-running effort to get details about Southern Methodist University's bid for the project. SMU has declined to discuss its plans, calling the information a trade secret that could be used by the Bush library competitors.

Under the agreement, about 30 people Mr. Vodicka has asked to question would have been allowed to sign confidentiality agreements that would have sealed much of their testimony from the public.

What competitors?
I thought SMU was "the only finalist" for the thing. Not true?

Baylor and the Univ. of Dallas are still considered 'competitors'.

The announcement will occur in September and then Vodicka loses that last snippet of leverage. And pigs get slaughtered.

from the DMN:

WASHINGTON – There's no official word yet that SMU will host President Bush's library, but federal officials are shopping in Dallas for space to store his papers and collectibles – enough to fill a large-size supermarket.

In a solicitation letter to developers, the National Archives and Records Administration said it needs to rent a secure 60,000-square-foot space from Oct. 1, 2008, to Sept. 30, 2014, to hold "general textual, general non-textual, national security classified and museum collections."

Developers can offer new, existing or renovated buildings for the project, as long as they are within 25 miles of North Central Expressway at Lovers Lane in Dallas. :?: :?: :?: (Shouldn't that be Mockingbird Lane?)

Although that lies close to Southern Methodist University, the National Archives said the bid notice shouldn't be seen as confirmation of SMU as the site of the library and policy center.

"Based on what the president has said publicly, that he's negotiating with SMU, we thought it would be prudent to go out now and start soliciting bids for pieces of property," archives spokeswoman Susan Cooper said.

The George W. Bush Presidential Library Site Selection Committee named SMU in December the lone finalist to host the project, but the university and the panel say a final decision has not been made. And Baylor University officials, who are seeking the library, have held out hope that it still could go to Waco.

You got that right. Do these people realize it's the USA 2007. People lie... all the time... some couldn't tell the truth if they wanted to. And so what if SMU lied, Big Ray lied, the SMU prez lied, or anybody else lied? What difference does it make and why do these freaks keep bringing it up? It's a done deal. Give it a rest. When is the groundbreaking?
