Too bad Buddy Holly is not still with them. We could probably keep him.

goponies1 wrote:No disrespect to the above post but if Matt can get a gig at a BCS level school he is gone. Sorry, end of story. The family might be all warm and fuzzy in Dallas/U Park but if he can bolt he is gone. Hope he stays because he is an excellent coach and recruiter but lets be real here if the PAC 10, Big 12, Big 10, Big East, SEC, (ACC is out-will never coach in that league again) and even some Mo Valley Schools(Wichita State for example) come calling, he is gone...toast, poof, out on the first plane...press conference as soon as he accepts the job. Too many reasons for him not too. If you believe otherwise then you are soooooooooo naive. Nature of the business. The dude would run to the likes of a Vandy, Miss. St., Oregon, Oregon St., Missouri, Kansas State, South Florida, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Rutgers.
I understand the reasoning completely, but this is not true. He's already HAD and has rejected interest from the likes of the teams above while he's been here. He's not going anywhere as itsaputon says above.
And jt's WAY too generous on the Buddy Holly grade.

Doherty stayed exactly 9 months at his last job. Yeah he probably will stay at SMU for at least 4 years but only because he is building. If real BCS money comes along he'll be gone. And then we will have to suffer thru the Cheerleaders talking about how you trusted him and he broke your heart. Tiresome. If a Coach can triple or quadriple his salary and improve his career-he's going to go. And so would each of you.

NOT TRUE. I am staying put no matter how high the Coach's salary goes.

That'll be the day.
He is giving me extra credit because I set him up with Peggy Sue, and they had some True Loves Ways.

Perhaps, but I have a soft spot for the roots of rock and roll.

If Doherty gets this program rolling, it will be time to put that catchy new "pony up" slogan to the test
If the money is competitive and a coach enjoys where he and his family are living - it is true that any school in any conference can theorecticaly build a national powerhouse...and there's something to be said about making a name for yourself as a coaching legend. Might be easier to build something that can be sustained in CUSA than starting over with a bottom dweller in the ACC or other major conferences. And Memphis is just waiting for a true rival in this league.
Let's not shatter this dream too early
