The baseball team was shut down in 1980, to make room for the men's soccer team.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Great decision. Coach Hyndman's team is among the best in the country every single year.

Another reason to love college soccer: no silly metal bats.

I cannot recall when Baseball was dropped as a varisty sport but SMU men’s soccer team competed for the first time in 1975 after being a club team. Its first coach was Jimmy Benedek who was an excellent coach. SMU defeated TCU, 8-1, in its first game. The Mustangs would post a 14-4-2 record in their first season and went to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 1979. Schellas took over in the early 1980's. I remember baseball as a varsity sport but I do not remember it's being dropped as having anything to do with soccer. The women's program began in the late 1980's.

Baseball was certainly still going in 1976 when I graduated and continued until at least 1979 because my sister dated a baseball player for awhile.

Baseball was cancelled in the '79-'80 school year. I went out with someone for awhile who'd been accepted to SMU on a baseball scholarship. When the program was cut, he stayed anyway. Spring of '79 would have been the program's final season.
