Also don't forget TE Vincent Chase. What a blocker ! On one play Chase blew a DE 15 yards off the line and cleared the way for a RB who made about 20-25 yards around his sideline. I hope Coach will take advantage of his talents this year. The guy can block, catch, and is 4.7 quick.
Bennett comented on how having Chase on the line was like having a 6th lineman. I know that doesn't bode well for those who are looking for him to play more of a role in receiving, but it's certainly worth something to note. -CoS
JT, I would agree with you but with Muse and Handy not playing and the fact they weren't going full speed, you couldn't get the best read on them. We're just going to have to wait and see. We've been a good team against the run in the past couple of years. We need to pick it up against the pass. But I'm sure Bennett and every coach in the country will probably tell you, "We're not ready yet. Or, I'm glad we have two more weeks to get ready.'' Keep your fingers crossed. But that offense. Man, it could be a fun unit to watch this year -- and it was pretty good with a below-par running game last year.
General: I don't want to appear insubordinate but...what team have you been watching? ![]()
we were one of the best teams in CUSA against the run-but most of those guys who made us good against the run (Heywood, Bonds, Carrington, Rogers and Sturdivant) are gone. Right now that is our biggest questionmark. As positive as some of the offensive possibilities are-especially if we can get some better athletes on the field at receiver- I'm still not sure this is a better team. We haven't had this many questionmarks on defense in a long time. On the positive side SMU's special teams has the potential to be outstanding if we remain healty especially Henderson and his impact on the new KO rule.
When the punt team was out there, everything looked like it was in slow motion......won't be suprised at all if Tech blocks one...... ![]()
If you're going to call out a poster, please pick the right one.
Derrius may be smart and he may bounce back, but he was pretty bad last night. Dude. -CoS Have you ever played football probably not. Derrius had a good game overall. He had a pass interference because the coverage was blown although it looked like it was on him it wasn't on him, what would you do take a 15 yard penalty or a touchdown. Dude. No one caught on him nor scored on him telling me he had a pretty good game. Got it right now! ![]()
True. If you simply say it wasn't his guy whenever someone catches the ball on him, he'll probably be a real shutdown guy. Sorry if he's your brother or whatever. Even Bryan McCann looked lost out there last year as a High School Freshman, though he had a pretty solid finish to the season. It happens. Cornerback is one of the toughest positions for making the transition to the D1 game, between the sudden jump in talent to the increased complexity of schemes and plans, and of course the overall bump in pressure of performing at this level. I'm sure that someday his performance will match your view of him. -CoS
I don't know how anyone else felt, but I didn't see where Henderson looked limited or timid on moving, cutting, etc.
Regading the defensive questions -- and there are a lot -- I think it's really going to be important for Morstead to really influence field position and force teams to put together long drives. If they consistently start around the 35, we're going to be in trouble. I could see a lot of games being 35-24 or something like that.
KOMorstead should get the kick off position he constantly has out performed everyone else and has the stronger leg. It would take a blind man to not start him on KO's
Michael Jordan plays ball. Charles Manson kills people. I talk.

He was pretty highly recruited out of junior college. As far as I know, the NCAA has yet to hand down a ruling on the request for immediate eligibility.
No harm, except that he would be taking reps from someone who will be on the field on Sept. 3.
"It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."
Word is they plan to include Chase in the receiving game. But if, for the sake of argument, they use him largely as an extra lineman, how about letting him block and turning Andrew McKinney loose? With his combination of size and speed, he could cause some real headaches for defenses.
