(I could be wrong about this, though) Didn't get his name but he's a U.T. grad working in the SMU Athletics Facilities & Operations Dept. who played on the U.T. National Championship baseball team as a relief pitcher (actually got some PT) and has a nice ring to show for it, too. So...it's true. If you graduate from U.T., you will end up working for SMU!
Well, someone's gotta step in that's been part of a winning a program. Zing!
He was wearing his Mustang shirt....so he's obviously getting away from 'the dark side'.

I think that almost if not all of the replays are shown but they show them so quickly after the play that by the time you look up the replay is over. I kind of programmed myself last year to look up to the screen immediately after the whistle blew and was able to catch some that I normally owuld have missed. They need to at least let the players unpile before showing the replay.

Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought when Ford first opened the sound for the first game was awesome...but some key Blue Haired Octaganerian Donors complained that it was too loud and hurt their ears, so they turned it down to a whisper.....
Perhaps the real problem was not enough speakers surrounding the stadium and the need to have the ones by the pressbox really loud...dunno though.

Sit over in the east seats/student body sometime. You can't hear a damn thing over there. Seriously. Nothing, nada. All of the speakers on the west side point downward and the sound doesn't carry over to the east side. Also, the sound quality with the current system sucks. It will be interesting to hear what this new system sounds like. The guy who was telling me about this says it will be installed next Monday at Ford on the scaffolding on both sides of the Jumbotron.
Someone has come forth with $$$ to try out this new sound system.

I think the problem is just that they didn't have good speakers in good locations. It was like setting up all 5-7 surround sound speakers right by your tv.
However, I would not doubt that there was somebody neighboring the stadium complaining about the sound. I remember that there were lots of complaints when the band would practice at 7pm on the practice fields.
"He was quoting the Bible, Revelations. 'Behold the pale horse.' The man who 'sat on him was Death... and Hell followed with him.'"
"You tell 'em I'm coming... and hell's coming with me!"

At 7pm? Man Dallasites are touchy. I'd understand 3am.

Park Cities residents are so damn fickle. If SMU has a game and makes noise (or, rather...the opposing fans make noise) they'll complain. And what's even weirder is that they're probably an alumni of or have a child attending that school (i.e. Texas Tech, TCU, Rice, Oklahoma State, etc.)! But...if Highland Park High School has a game (all sold out, by the way) at Highlander Stadium and the HP fans and bands and opposing teams' fans make lots of noise, they don't complain! Fickle, fickle, fickle.

More speakers, at a lower volume, sound MUCH better than a few speakers at higher volume. Anyone who goes to Rangers games knows the difference. At the Ballparkameriquestarlingtonrangerfield, there are hundreds of speakers around the park, and the PA announcer sounds like he's sitting right behind you (homeristic cheerleading style notwithstanding). At the old stadium, they had something like three locations with speakers, so in most seats, you couldn't hear what they were saying, while if you sat near the speakers, it was so loud it felt like your ears would start bleeding.

Proof that the new system works. When the Bill Melton "From high on the hilltop...'' blared out, you had to cover your ears. Loud. Loud. Loud.

The west side always got BLASTED OUT! It's the east side where you couldn't hear anything. I hope this new system will fix that.

Don't forget the north end zone seats, too. I've heard folks who have sat over there say they couldn't hear anything, either.

Why do they need a new PA system so soon? The stadium only a few years old.

The stadium opened in 2000. The PA system that was installed at the time of construction has never been good. Low bid, I guess. Read back thru this thread and you'll understand why SMU's Ford Stadium needs a new PA system.

I don't know if that was the new PA system working it at the scrimmage or not but that opera style music REALLY does not work...'What the hell are we listening to' - PB
