DMN reports that Dez has signed to play his fifth (graduate) year at UNT. Since SMU doesn't have his post graduate degree, he is eligible to play this year.

I'm calling BS. He wants a masters in education and SMU does offer that (see the Dez thread near the bottom of the page). There's more to this story other than "SMU doesn't have his masters degree".

Like perhaps, they didn't have a schollie for him this year, or Coach D told him his playing time would be limited.

I like Dez, but something has to make you wonder when this is his third Division I program in his career.

Bingo. Many in the program had commented that Dez did not exactly embrace Doherty's coaching style and expectations as well as some other players did. Still a good guy but the truth of the matter is, he realized that in spite of the fact that he would be one of only 4 Seniors or Juniors on the roster, he would be getting less PT than last season (despite what many posters had to say when the news broke that he was leaving).

Isn't that the usual reason a player leaves a program, lack of playing time?

Could it be that the allure of playing in the Tourney before his college career is over weighed on him?
This is NOT a shot at SMU but NT looks more poised to win their conference tourney and go to the dance than SMU does. A better team in a "weaker" conference.

I expect it is simply a combination of both--not wanting to play for Doherty, and hoping that NTSU can dance again this year.

you mean a "better" in a weaker conference? you had a decent run last year, but thats about all thats proven so far. your recruiting is decent, but dohertys is "better".
