This is the perfect example of a loser mind set. As longtime sportsfans, we've all heard teams say things like this and they all have something in common. They end up losing. I can think of numerous teams that failed after saying this but I can't think of one championship team that takes this approach. If the real opener is against UNT, why are we spending money to go see the Tech game.

As a fan of SMU football for the last twenty years, I'm planning to go to the Tech game to support my team. Does that mean I have expectations that they will win? No.

Regardless of how I look at the game, since I don't play on the team I'm not sure how that will affect this "championship" team's approach.

"The bombing will start tomorrow". Ronald Reagan. "I was for it before I was against it". John Kerry. "Poland is a free and autonomous nation." Gerald Ford. People say things that make sense to them and make sense to the listener and when they are written down they come out wrong. I'm sure that Bennett did not mean that we are not going to put a 100% effort in against the Red Raiders. That said, you don't play a dinged up player in a non-conference game if you can avoid it. Don't start him, put him in for a few reps in the UNT or ASU game and then play him more in the TCU game. By then he should be ready for conference play.

I really think a lot of folks are craving for another reason to moan and complain.

This is not like when Gerald Ford said in the 1976 campaign that there is no Soviet domination of eastern europe.

Believe it or not, this time I understand him completely. I would not want to risk Muse for the rest of the year on a game where we will not be close to favored.

Let's play our best, but get past Tech relatively healthy and focus on our real opener against NTSU. Bennett's future depends on that game.
we finally agree?!

Why play him in the NTSU, ASU or TCU game at all if afraid of him making the injury worse....all it could take is one play. Wouldn't it be better to rest him all four non-conference games so that he would be 100% when the "real" games start.....as some have stated?

I am keeper of the Hizza. Kneel before the Hizza.

I aint too worried about any BS "coach speak" before any game or season. somebody brought up Notre Dame coaches, what about the beloved Lou Holtz? You think he talked up his team or his chances?

I agree bennett was probably just talking about Muse in particular, but even if he wasn't, its coach speak for gods sake. All of 'em do it to varying degrees and it doesn't mean a thing.

If he's seen no action before conference play then he would probably not be 100% for conference play. If on the other hand he had mended sufficiently to play a series in the first half and a series in the second half, of games two and three, he would be able to at least test the leg to see how it was healing. Then get more reps against TCU and be 100% for conference play.

After reading Coaches comments, I am having second thoughts about purchasing $47 a ticket to see a game that Coach doesn't think he will win. It's too bad.

Do you have reading comprehension problems? Clearly, as has been stated many times (on this thread even) that Bennett was talking about Muse, not about our chances to win. Please actually read the article before coming up with some half-baked idea of what you want to think that Bennett said.
