Wouldn't it be a conflict because the game is on ESPN? Is ESPN Radio covering it?

If I remember correctly, didn't 1310 cover the Haloween game last year. Seems strange to me that they would have the game only on 1700 and not 1310.

Those idiots are still on the air? Isn't there a contractual agreement between SMU and the station?
There's no excuse to bump a game for a talkshow, especially one as stupid as that one.
I seriously hope that's not the reason.
Then again, I'll be on the 40-yard line, so I don't care that much.

So at first this info really irked me... the Ticket is supposed to be our flagship station, right?

Well, read this and then please here me out -

Kate Hairopoulos in the DMN Colleges Blog wrote:SMU radio info for Monday

The Texas Tech-SMU season opener Monday
will air locally on 1700 AM as opposed to the usual 1310 AM The Ticket.

On Monday, Ticket shows BaD Radio and The Hardline will broadcast live
from the SMU campus. BaD Radio will air from The Boulevard, while The
Hardline will air from the south end of Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

The SMU game broadcast, featuring Rich Phillips, Craig Swann and John
Hampton, will air on 1700 and will stream through The Ticket's website
and SMUMustangs.com starting at 2:30 p.m. The SMU broadcast will also be
aired within the stadium only on 87.7 FM.

So here's the thing... I live in ATX these days, and well, every station and their momma's station wants to air the Tejas games, why? Because everyone will listen even if they are playing the Georgia Institute of Powder Puffism Science and Hair Coloring State University.

So as I proud SMUer, I want the same.

However, this is a win win. Why?

While not honoring what we might think of as the actualy contract, the Ticker is honoring the spirit of the contract (and we'll see how this goes) - the Dallas sports market is pretty saturated, and radio stations are fighting tooth and nail to squeeze every last drop and listener out of it.

If The Ticket would have chosen to just blow off the ponies, my response would be vitriol.... however, with the folks broadcasting from not only the 'Vard, but the actual game itself, there is a twofold reality.... YES, they are relegating us to their non-entity alter ego, BUT, for all the pony fans looking for the game who don't already know that it's not on this other station, they will find it, AND, again twofold... the earlier show will absolutely no dount espouse the virtues of the 'Vard, but the later show will - should we make it a game - get pretty damned excited. Excited enough for people to change the station to the actual game? Let's hope. Excited enough to come out for a game? Let's hope.

So while I hate the fact that The Ticket is forgoing broadcast of the game for their boys.... I can't say it's a wholly horrible idea as we need all te exposure we can get.... unless of course the guys decide to be [deleted] and (a) don't really talk about us at all, or (b) - and worse - bad mouth us the entire time.

Personally, I just don't see the latter two happening. I really feel this will be a good thing... but then again, who the F cares, we're gonna' be on friggin' ESPN to see without another football game in sight. This is beautiful.

Now let's just go out and beat those bastages.

I wonder if my little radio can pick up 1700 in Ford?

I actually think this is a positive too. 90% of the Ticket's audience would have turned it off. Now they'll listen out of routine-and quite frankly, Corby, Williams and even Rhyner have been extremely complimentary of the Boulevard scene. Sell the Boulevard. More non-affiliated fans will be tempted to check out a game at Ford based upon impressions of the college atmosphere on the Boulevard than they would based upon playing any CUSA team on our schedule. This is a potentially great selling point for SMU-the only missing ingredient is PEOPLE. Texas Tech solves that problem and the Boulevard will be smokin' Saturday. I'm serious-their ratings will be higher-the SMU fans can find a TV or listen on 1700. About 3 times or 6 hours more exposure to the SMU college atmosphere experience-which is exactly what SMU must sell to non-affiliated Dallas fans. Once you get them on campus-is there any doubt that the Boulevard is one of the most unique tailgating experiences in this part of the country? Its like giving out free samples at a ice cream shop. Give 'em a taste then the product has to sell them.

It will be interesting to see why Rhyner, Corby, and the Hammer have to say during the game since they will be doing their show from the south endzone during the game

That's all they ever do. It's their idea of "entertainment."

SMU's IQ average will drop when those geniuses set foot on campus. If they ever took an SAT, the campus average in that would drop, too.

Yep that's the idea. You do understand that don't you. Or should we have an IQ Test to set foot on campus? When they take some shots at SMU like pointing out that our football team has sucked for 20 years-you laugh, acknowledge the obvious, and then engage them with the reason things are changing-NOT criticize them for having low IQs. You've lost the opportunity to sell your program when you do that. And you are wrong they all are in awe of both Ford and the Boulevard which are the only really good things that have happened to SMU in 20 years anyway. The fact is that their opinion of SMU is a pretty darn good reflection of how Dallas perceives our football program.

Use that flag pole on the Special Delivery vehicle as an antenna. I am sure you will be able to pick it up.
