Bright Spots

Postby gostangs » Mon Sep 03, 2007 6:48 pm

1). Kicking game - pro quality punter (who needs one more then us?).

2) McCann - he came to play and I thought he did great vs big fast receivers.

3) O Line - not horrible I thought (I am sure others will disagree) - but considering the d line they were facing I thought we had pretty goood time.

4) Blvd - Great beer, food, talent, crowd, atmpshere.

The play calling was the worst I have ever seen (and in 30 yrs I have seen some horrible play calling) and the formations we use do not match our talent , but this is a bright spot post, so I will leave that to others.

Yes Henderson is THE return man on this team. If he is in position to return the ball, Mapps needs to get upfield and block. It seems like Mapps cut him off a few times.

But then again, who would tell him that, since we don't need a special teams coach...

I have always wondered that myself. Why give the other team the option to even kick away from Henderson? Why not line him up back my himself, and move Mapps, or another body up 15 yards for more blocking???

The only other bright spot is that I thought our DTs would have major issues, and they actually held their own.

No injuries to anyone important. I keep telling myself that believe it or not, there are still 11-13 games left this season. Not with the way we played, but there still are and we emerged (I think) without anyone hurt.

Martin sure seemed to run well today, and he didn't get hurt.

Morestead looked great.

Henderson looked pretty darn good after he wrestled the ball away from Mapps.

Rhodes had a nice pass.

Chase can flat out run people over so long as he hangs on to the ball.

McCann is a player.

Ford Stadium and the Boulevard looked fantastic.

ESPN complimented the marketing push.

The student section was packed and lively until we fell on our face.

I am very excited about this team! We only lost by 40 points! And the coach has only been here 6 years! He's still new. Give him a couple of decades to constuct a good game plan. We're in no hurry--We're SMU! Maybe next year we only lose by 30. It normally takes 20+ years to build winning season, right? I know Utah, Boise State, TCU, UTEP, Hawaii, Fresno State only took a few years, but we like to take our time. Pony Up! I can't wait for the 2017 season--we should be bowl bound.
