STEVE ORSINI'S MIND?

Postby ALEX LIFESON » Mon Sep 03, 2007 9:29 pm

What do you think Steve was thinking about in the second half; as SMU fans were heading toward the exists? All the money and work that has gone into promoting this game and season? We get a game on the BIG STAGE and bombed big time. I wonder if the ESPN executive that suggested this game be aired, was fired by the 4th quarter.

Tech had 66 passes and not one sack, with 4 new starters on the offensive line.
SMU had ZERO pressure, unless we used the blitz.
Tech had 12 possessions with 7 touchdowns.
550 yards of offense!
SMU's offense could not score a touchdown, even against the Tech reserves.
Mapps and Henderson running into each other TWICE on kick returns.
SMU receivers dropping passes.
fumbles.
penalties.
missed tackles, and more missed tackles!
This was a rebuilding year for Tech, with massive graduation losses on BOTH sides of the ball. And yet we were thrashed, dominated, and humiliated on national tv.
What a way to start another year.

Look for the silver lining in it. Everything was absolutely perfect up until the ball was kicked off. Kudos and hats off to everybody that made this a shining presentation of our school, campus, and program up until we had to play football. The students were there, fans were there, and genuine excitement was there. SMU football can be sold to people. We just can't fall flat on our face trying to do it.

wow 66 passes and no sacks against a team with 4 new Offensive Lineman starters-didn't realize it was that bad. That's almost unbelievably bad. Guess Tech's Offensive line answered a lot of doubters. I was suspicious when Leach was so excited about these guys.

If TCU blows us out...

Postby Sam I Am » Mon Sep 03, 2007 9:40 pm

SMU can survive a blowout by Tech because they may show other teams, too, just how good they can be. SMU can't survive a blowout by TCU because they could have been us.

Huh??? We have survived several blow outs by TCU and this year we will get the receiving end of another. It is a second loss to UNT that we cant survive.

2-2 is the OC prediction and it appears to be the same - although Arkansas St away will be a challenge.

Bennett BETTER win the Arkansas State game or he will probably be toast by mid-year, if not sooner!

Arkansas state on the road is the test

Yep, if SMU loses to Ark State on the road (in September), its bye-bye PB.

Orsini walked down to the field with 2 minutes remaining. He looked ashen and said very little.

Don't read anything into that. The media meets on the field to go up the tunnel to the press conference. Steve-O often listens to the press conference, so he was down there with the media, that's all.

Tech only gave up 11 sacks last year, because Harrell gets rid of the ball so quickly. A lot of teams don't register one. Stallion's right — Leach knew what he was sittingg on with this line. They're enormous and talented. They're not as well-known as the group that graduated, but those big monsters can play. It's not like Tech has a JV line.

Beating Texas Tech would have been nice, but it never was likely.

Beating UNT is mandatory.

IMO, most on this board did not believe we would beat TT this year-- but most believed we would compete when we had the ball on offense. But against an average Tech defense, the OC proved his ineptness (AGAIN).

We run our 220lb RB wide & our 160lb RB up the middle-- GENIUS!!!

Despite continuos pressure, we NEVER roll-out to utilize Willis' talents-- GENIUS!!

With such play calling, UNT will play us competitively...

Yea, we were out coached. But that is no surprise. SMU is not a big time program like Appalachian State.

Atmosphere - superior
Head Coaching - clueless
Tackling - non-existent
Offensive play-calling - brainless
Student experience - N/A (1/2 gave up getting in due to hassles/time to get in stadium)
Loss of fan support - PRICELESS

Steve-O is probably thinking about which wealthy booster he can call to come up with the money for the "Phil Bennett Severance Package" that Copeland left us with...........

Hey, the "O" had the chance last season & he elected to hang with PB-- which is okay with me. But... it's PB's choice to let the OC call plays in the same zip code as our offense that pi$$es me off!
