I'm watching this on my TIVO at home just to make sure that I'm being fair.
The Good
- Punter was AMAZING
- I thought the team (SMU) overall was much more physical and showed much more speed on defense than I expected.
- The Defensive Line played the run well.
- I thought Serge, showed me a little something as did Smart
- Jesse Henderson played okay
- The Offensive Line, which I've called very soft the last couple of years, played very well.
- I loved it when Columbus Givins knocked the heck out of the Tech Dback at the start of the game.
- DeMyron ran really hard, happy to see him back
- Chase, if he holds on to the ball, is will be better than Kennedy
The Bad
- Poor, Poor Tackeling by our D backs
- We have to do something at Saftey
- Willis Didn't show up the way he can
- E. Sanders, really didn't show up
- He led us in recieving, but how many passes did Zach Sledge drop?
- After a couple of times, you think you would learn not to run the full blitz against Harrel?
- Kick off coverage was bad
- What exactly does #3 do?
- Play calling....We must have been the only team in history who tried play keep away with the spread offense? Seriously, I thought the exection and play calling on offense was horrible.
Overall, I'm not ready to give up on this season. I saw a team that was much more physical than years before, however, I really believe that in order for SMU to be a conference condender, then there are going to need to be some young players step up. Particularly at Dline and Saftey.
But then again, what do I know?

A lot of passes were short and in the middle of the field. Maybe they were taking advantage of the fact that Carrington is no longer on the team and Hawkins is new at linebacker.

yeah but they worked Carrington and McCray over good last year too with that delayed seem pass to the WR. That's just their bread and butter and we don't have the athletes or ability to stop it.

I thought the ESPC commentator was especially insightful about the mistakes made by the SMU players. All of those corrections are a reflection upon the coaching. Check it out.

Tech simply ate up the 4-3. I don't understand why we never play a nickel. Our LBs can't handle the slot receivers, and the safties were too far back to handle the 10 yard pass over the middle.
Frankly, it was like watching our offense against our vanilla defense int he spring game at times.

The Good
- Punter was AMAZING - Very amazing.
- I thought the team (SMU) overall was much more physical and showed much more speed on defense than I expected. I saw that too.
The Bad
- Poor, Poor Tackeling by our D backs - I'd disagree a bit here. OUr WR were bottled up for no gain or short gain most of the day. There were only a couple of big plays broken by our WR. I thought SMU did a good job of making the tackle after the catch.
Overall, I think Ponies sell Tech short. Yes we had a disappoing season last year and have yet to win the Big 12 but we are hardly middle of the road. We are right in the middle with Colorado and A&M over the history of the Big 12, but since we hired Leach, only Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska have more Big 12 wins than Tech. In the last five years, only Oklahoma and Texas have more Big 12 wins than Tech.
Don't get too down after this loss, just make the most of your conference schedule. Don't give up after one game. [/b]
