Re: Where's the beef? In the Tech offesnive line.
We have been consistently outrecruited by such powerhouses as Tulsa, Houston, UTEP, Tulane, etc. for goodness sake. It seems that this school should have a heck of a lot more to offer than these garden spots, but Bennett has lost out on many recruits that could have made a significant difference. His evaluation process is either superior, as evidenced by the fantastic display of talent shown today on ESPN, or geared more for bringing in 1AAA talent, which does not require groveling to athletes in order to get them commit.
The blame goes all the way around. But, it didn't appear to me that the coaches made any adjustments at all. Every time we tried to blitz or somehow get pressure on Harrell, it was the same thing every time. On another thread here somewhere, someone said the defense was calling out to each other every time they were going to blitz, and Tech was able to pick it up immediately. I don't understand why the DBs were giving the receivers so much room, when the deep ball was rarely thrown. Was there nothing else in the playbook to prevent picking up a 1st down on every 3rd down attempt?
I'm not even sure what to say about the offense. What has Fred Turner done to see exactly 37 seconds of playing time since he came to campus? Additionally, I would like to thank the SMU Marketing Department for letting me know that I had a tailgate spot AND parking pass. That was really nice of them, since they still haven't told me, but I just happened to see my name on a sign in the ground in the area where I was told I was on a waiting list to get a spot. I would also like to think the SMU Marketing Department for charging to park any where within a 50 mile radius of the campus. Oh, and a big shout out to the people that decided "no in and out" would be in enforced today. Other than that, let's get ready for North Lake Carroll University. No arguement, mrydel, EXCEPT that the OC play calling on our side remains clueless. Just like last year, we only throw 3 yd passes or 33 yd passes. And everyone in the ncaa knows it & defends accordingly. What I saw today was better (SMU) athleticsm than in prior years- but there are 3A HS programs that have better play calling that what we have. And the results reflect such.
I was NOT impressed with Willis pass choices. Additionally, his long passes were not very accurate and appeared to be forced. Could his hand still be hurting?
Colonel Kurtz and the horrorIs this Apocalypse Now? Do I hear Colonel Kurtz whispering, "The horror, the horror"? Can one game end a season so soon? One thing for sure, the sun has set. How about some moonshine? After all, what is Peruna for except for times like these?

They didn't even get an inch of seperation. There wasn't a whole lot the coaches could've done differently. I didnt think this coming into the game, but we would've gotten our butts kicked regardless of the perfect game plan, it just wasn't going to happen today. They are way more talented than us Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
TCU is the best non-conference opponent on the schedule. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that we lose to TCU but beat UNT and Arkansas State. That means we're 2-2 going into conference games. If we then win 5 or 6 conference games, that doesn't count as heavy-duty snuffing? I want to see the Ponies beat TCU, of course, but if that scenario unfolds, we end up with 7 or 8 wins … and a bowl berth.
Re: 5-7 maybe
My gut feeling was 6-6 at the beginning of the year, I'll stick with that Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
At least I called this one right. I predicted that if we lost, there would be dozens of posters calling for Bennett's head. Tech had better talent. Tech played well. Bennett followed the same game plan the Aggies, Horns and Sooners used successfully against TT, didn't work for us. TT didn't drop passes, we did. They didn't throw behind receivers, we did. They didn't fumble, we did. Their QB stayed in the pocket, ours got happy feet. Their D was fast enough to get double coverage, ours wasn't. Their lines did their job, ours were outmanned. Appalachian State beat Michigan. ASU is the two time defending 1-AA champions. They know how to win. For those of you who have never attended a 1-AA game, 35-32 is about the average score. They don't care if you score, because they'll score soon enough. ASU came ready to run a fast paced game with lots of scoring. Michigan was like the prize fighter who never got hit and were stunned that someone scored against them. They weren't ready for the game ASU brought. Carr did not have them ready for the opponent they were playing. We now need to focus on an Arkansas State team that gave the Longwhorns fits. We're playing them in in bred land. So, it will not be easy. In a way, this loss will help the team know they are not as good as their press clippings were pre-season and they have to work at it to be good enough to beat Arkansas State.
