Stop Playing BCS schools

Postby Nacho » Tue Sep 04, 2007 12:35 pm

Can we please stop playing BCS schools until we prove that we can compete with them, ie beat non-BCS schools regularly. We need to schedule the worst possible schools in the country--Buffalo, Temple, Sunbelt schools.

I completely agree with Blog that if we do play a BCS school it shouldn't be the 1st game. It just kills the confidence of the fans not to mention the players. That said I have absolutely 0 confidence that we can beat UNT. They run essestially the same O as TT. If I see us playing 10 yards off the WRs I am out of there.

Even though UNT got mauled by Oklahoma they showed me some grit. They are extremely small and had no business playing what may well be the NC at the end of the year. Oklahoma is awesome. Talent everywhere. UNT will come at us. Not looking forward to it but I will be there.

we need the attendance boost at home. No way does SMU avg 15,000 per game without Tech fans this season.

Wait, wait, wait. Everyone around here decries the BCS cartel blah, blah, blah yet you're admitting that there are some schools - including SMU - that don't belong in that category. Which is it? Should all schools get a fair shake or is the system that's in place, while flawed, at least a decent solution this side of a playoff?

I just think it's hypocritical to talk [deleted] about the BCS as a whole and bellyache about the fact that SMU is not in a BCS conference yet then say they are not ready to play BCS schools (which I think is false - Texas Tech is a good team, there are plenty of BCS schools that I think SMU could beat).

And for the record, I'm saying that Nacho is making these assertions, but just that they have been made here before (sorry if it looks as though I'm calling you out).

if you think its good to stop playing BCS schools then your Fing dumb...

its the only way we can "try" to keep up in the recruiting game against the bigger Texas schools...i.e UT, AM, TT, BU...we had 1 ESPN top 150 recruit this year...1 more than BU...

playing BCS schools gets us a quick buck sometimes, boosts the attendance and can give us a small edge in recruiting

We and every non-BCS school exists in div 1a so that the BCS schools can get their 6 wins and go to a bowl . That is our lot in life.

Let's scrape the bottom in d-1 and play Duke, Iowa State, Colorado etc if we are going to continue . We should not renew the contract with TT. I have been to my last SMU-TT game. I will not put myself through that fiasco again.

I think the only BCS bottom feeder that would play us is Baylor...other than that, all BCS schools try to schedule easy wins

You think TCU is being scheduled for an easy win and extra bucks to make it to a bowl? Don't make a statement when it's being contradicted in our own flipping backyard. They changed their 'lot in life.'

We shouldn't stop playing BCS schools, especially second tier ones like Tech or Ok. State. We should find a coaching staff that can analyze an opponent and come up with some sort of gameplan to keep us in the game.

TCU and Boise are the 2 notable exceptions. I don't know why BCS shcools play them. It would not shock me at all to see TCU beat UT. In fact I think they have an excellent chance. UT has nothing to gain by playing TCU. We don't have the comittment that TCU has. The record speaks for itself. Look at the records of the non-BCS schools over the weekend. Rarely did a non-BCS schools win. Again it's all about BCS schools getting 6 wins.

How do we know how good or bad we really are, unless we play BCS schools every year. Everyone wants to play Duke, Baylor, Syracuse, Stanford, Northwestern and Vanderbilt. I'm kind of surprised they don't play us because they might consider us a winnable game. As I've said before the optimum schedule includes 1 BCS decent team. 1 BCS bottom feeder and two winnable OOC games. We lost to the BCS decent team, so we know where we stand. Duke, Syracuse, Northwestern, Vandy and Stanford would not draw very well in Dallas which is why we don't play them.

Look at what Doh is doing with the b-ball schedule. Very smart on his part. Get some wins. Let the players mature and them improve the schedule. Very smart guy.

I still believe the military schools are one we should shuttle in & out of the schedule each year. SMU gets adequate attendance from the ex-military in dfw plus a potential winnable game.

WAAA! WAAA! WAAAA!

Hey, Nacho. There shouldn't even BE a BCS. All it does is perpetuate the power of its members.

We should work to end the BCS monopoly on talent. It's pure BS!!!!!!!
