What will it take for us to cancel all scheduled games against Big 12 teams for at least the next 2 years? Until we have at least two consecutive winning seasons, can we please drop all BCS teams from the schedule. It's not fair to the team and it's definitely not fair to the paying fans. We at this stage in our development have no chance of beating A&M, Tech, Baylor, Texas, or anyone else from the old Southwest conference.
These games are simply glorified practices for those teams. TCU waited until they had consecutive years of proven success before they began playing Texas, Oklahoma, etc.

poor ole SMU-can't play tackle football with the big boys. That is just a pathetic argument. We have to play a mean ole Top 50 team in Texas Tech. TCU is 9-1 against the Big 12. Our Coach is in his 6th year. What happened to all those great recruiting class he claims he found. SMU plays 8 games against schools that are not among the Top 75 in the nation. We play about 4-5 maybe 6 teams teams that aren't among the Top 100 teams in America cartainly 6 teams not among the Top 90. What more do you want? What a bunch of pu -weanies.

I agree. If we can't drop the Big 12 teams from the schedule, can we at least get a coach who can coach our talent up. TCU is big, but not quite as big as Tech. They are close in athleticism but the difference is coaching.

and it simply doesn't matter that TCU has outrecruited SMU for 16 out of 17 years and arguably 17 out of 17 years. I got an idea-let's get a coach who can outrecruit TCU and give him the resouces and Model he needs to do it. Is that really asking too much for SMU to compete with TCU. Maybe I'm missing something? Guess I always thought SMU could beat TCU in just about everything it set its mind to. Guess that's not the case these days.

If we can't play in a BCS conference, much less a BCS (second tier) school, why bother? Schedule only Sun Belt teams outside our conference? What a ridiculous suggestion.
We are either a Div. 1A school or not. If you follow this logic, we would migrate to 1AA.
I want BCS schools one or two times a year. Crazy? Perhaps. But to paraphase another school:
We are the Mustangs! We will prevail, we will prevail! We are S-M-U!

That ra, ra, cheerleader garbage sounds good on this message board but how did you feel at the end of that A-kickin on Monday?
How did you feel after the A-kickin Tech gave us last year?
How about the one from A$M two years ago?
How about the loss to Baylor?
I won't even mention Rashawn Woods and OK. State.

A whipping is a whipping. I'd rather get beat by a BCS school than a junior college. We have to elevate our program not lower our standards.

I agree. 100%. Now...a very serious question for you, Stallion. Who do you suggest S.M.U. approach for its next football HC?

the idiot who suggests we downgrade our opposition needs to get removed from this board. to be put on any type of national map, you need to at least compete and knock off the big boys, see boise state vs oklahoma (best game i've seen in my life). after mondays performance vs tech, i'd say coaching has a lot to do with our recent failures against legitimate opposition.

Oh no. Recruiting doesn't matter. It's just great game day coaching.

I thought maybe this year. But possibly I was wrong. However, last time I checked the schedule there was a lot of football left in the season.

Maybe it should not be the first game, but I think it is good for SMU to play an upper level team every year. Sure we could have scheduled "Little Sisters Of The Poor U." and won the game, but the stadium would have had less than half the people in it. That means alot less money, publicity, exposure/TV, and excitement for the program. Also it is good for us to experience what a real college game is like with a full stadium of chanting deafening cheers by excited prideful fans. It's where we want to be, and hopefully will be soon. I think Steve Orsini is going to get us there.
