RGV,
What's your point? Notre Dame's roster is younger, or as young as SMU's roster. Notre Dame also plays a tougher schedule. I suggested Haywood because one, I assume Mr. Orsini is familar with him. Two, Haywood has recruited TX and the south and has a considerable track record of success. And three,it's an opportunity for SMU to hire a an African-American HC I believe SMU would be the first former SWC school to hire a black HC if this happened. And four, you could also argue Haywood has had more sucessful experience as an assistant at this point of his career than PB had when he was hired.
dcpony, my comment was made tongue in cheek.
I'm pro golden-dome, in fact. I think it's still way early to be discussing the pros and cons of potential replacements for coaches. As far as splash hires, and if you want an African American, I'll take Dennis Green...but again, I haven't even begun to think seriously about who I'd want.
Considering the color of one's skin as a plus or minus in the hiring process is racism. I'd appriciate it if you would keep your bigotry off this messageboard.
FYI...basically every athletic department has to consider race. Anyway Haywood is more than qualified to be SMU's next HC: http://und.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/haywood_michael00.html And if you a want to talk about race and affirmative action, one can argue about legacy admissions etc inthe same context...I'm more than happy to spar with you on this all day.
My comment was tongue-in-cheek, mostly. If you continue to adjust the value of someone for a job, scholarship, etc. based on race, you will continue to have racism, real or imagined. This isn't the place for that argument anyway though. I'm for whoever can recruit. I'm sure Orsini can come up with someone far better than any of us could.
My problem with Haywood is that Weiss is a control freak on offense. He deal with the QB's; he calls the plays; the gameplan is his and he makes sure the world knows it. So, what exactly does Haywood do as OC besides recruit?
I understand the frustration - but to correct one item in your original post - we are light years ahead of Tulsa academically. Your statement is just wrong.
Third party ranking servies have us in the top 75 schools in the country - behind Rice and UT in Texas, and about even with A&M. Just FYI Now football wise - we will know more at end of season but this was a less then uplifting start. A bunch more games to play, and this is the best team we will play.
Nah. Not on the zone blitz that everybody has their panties in a wad about...I think that was the score that put them up 14-3. I keep up w/ Justin Smart because he is from Marshall, where I live, and his girlfriend as well as family friends live in my block...I see him consistently when he is back home, and if it weren't for the fact that it is a NCAA violation, my wife would have him over for tea...I guess my point is that I paid attention to his play...and he got beat on that play...nevermind that the right tackle he was playing against was some ridiculously 140 lbs heavier than Justin.... If given half a chance, he ought to be able to zoom against NTSU...just watch...ain't nobody going to give him the trouble that RT for Tech gave him...geez. Not sure I get your point. Tulsa delivers about the same salary to their grads as SMU.
