One would suspect that if kids quit on Monday after a gentle reminder by the coach of their purpose on the field, then we would have heard about it before Wednesday. Everyone is different, so many people could respond in a multitude of ways. One would suspect that if a kid got his butt chewed off he would be more interested in proving the SOB that did the chewing was wrong. Then again in the PC self-esteem world of today perhaps kids would just quit and go home.
Give Bennett credit, if he did give them a two hour chewing, at least he is showing that he gives a hoot in hell about losing.

And frankly, don't let the door hit you on the way out. I will not any player who would quit under the aforementioned circumstances. That is gutlless.
That goes for the QB all the way down to the fourth string punter.
Grow up and play football.
George, hate to tell you but it was BENNETT that recruited them. If they quit, you have to question his ability to judge character. Of course, if he chewed them out that badly, you DO have to question his coaching ability, because he is the primary reason for the debacle to have occurred in the first place!

I take it by the cavalier nature of posts up here that most of us think that the rumor is crap?
Here's to hoping it is, anyway.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Ugh. I gotta tell you...maybe it is indeed Bennett, but I have to agree with the Sarge...uh...I mean General....
Take the chewing, grow a pair, and play football. Too much attitude in the locker room.

That argument is crap. We hear so much about football is a great teacher of life lessons and how to deal with adversity. You don't deal with it by running off.
Yes, Bennett brought these guys to SMU based on what he scouted and how they conducted themselves on the field, in the classroom and what he could know about them off the field.
But I'm sorry the onus goes on every man on that roster to be accountable to the other 84, the staff and support staff.
These guys bear the rsponsibility of what is required, and if a little butt chewing caused them to run off, then they're cowards. Look at my signature and those are the kind of people are want playing for my team.
And by the way, I don't know about some of the "faithful" who bailed out in the third quarter, I left Monday when the clock struck 0:00 in the 4th quarter. That's a fact.
The typical SMU fan mentality -- when it gets too tough and it doesn't go our way, then we'll see you when it good times. Wonderful attitude.

i know the students many times leave early but it was a shock how many actually bailed. i would say near 90% were gone by the start of the 4th quarter. pretty sad.

You know what, I'm sorry but don't give me that SMU fan mentality crap, and don't think you're "faithful" because you stayed until the end of the game. All it makes you is somebody that watched more shi&^y football than me. I chose to leave in the third quarter because our team clearly didn't give a damn by the way they played, and it sure didn't seem like the coaches did at that point. So why would I subject myself to another hour of listening to Tech fans degrade our fans and our team and watch that steaming pile some called a football game.
If I wanted to experience that I can stare at the sun for an hour and half from the comfort of my balcony. So just because I left doesn't make me any less of a fan or a supporter of our team. When we want to play a whole game, I'll stay the whole game. But to call out people for leaving that mess of an event on Monday is uncalled for and pretty pretentious

As I stated at the beginning of this thread, I did not know if there was any truth to what I had heard 'third hand'. Glad to hear that it's unfounded (I hope).

I never quit, raplh. I just took a much needed vacation from this lunacy.
And, for the record, I stayed until the clock hit 0:00 at the end of the game on Monday, too. Yea for me.
