“I think it’s incredibly pathetic for a guy just to anonymously rip on a scholarship athlete who’s doing the best he can. And by the way, I think I’m right . . . It’s fascinating to read what fans say. The Internet gives all these people a voice. What’s the old saying, freedom of speech just makes it easier to identify the idiots? That’s never been more true than in an Internet chat room.â€

If memory serves, there are 12 games in this season, NOT 1!!!

Oh, and good number of us were saying anywhere between 6-6 and 8-4.

If UNT isn't one of those wins, then the criticisms will be more and more valid.

Just remember, it's now how you start. It's how you finish.

Well it was a sorely disappointing start. But you're right, it was one game.

It was not for those of us with no expections, but then again it was no pleasant surprise, either. I'll be needing that beer soon.

I thought on the Ponyfans.com poll somewhere in the range of 75-80% predicted 7-5 or better. I believe I'm correct that over half predicted 8-4 or better. I wish we could keep access to preseason polls.

Yes but very few of those who predicted a winning season predicted a win over Tech. Almost everyone had it as a L. I do admit that the way we lost to Tech was worrying. Be interesting to see how we do against NT.

No No No my friend. I'd say at least 50% predicted a win. Very few except some very intelligent Legends predicted a big Tech win. In fact 18 out of 30 in a poll shortly before the game. Rampant optimism at SMU's chances to BEAT Tech were all over this board.

Obviously, they were wrong.

For the record, I said 7-5. I guess we'll all know after Memphis during Thanksgiving Weekend how smart/unsmart we were.

And let's all not forget this is an either or season for Phil Bennett. He either gets it done and we're bowling or he's out. Not much to discuss beyond that.

Someone actually keeps track of how many fans predict wins and losses and which teams we were predicted to beat?? Somebody has a lot of time on their hands.

Back to the topic of this thread. Three different people called me and told me the same three names of players who were rumored to have quit.

All three players were at practice today. False alarm.

unfortunately like you and JT I had no expectation of winning on monday... however this saturday i feel good... I predicted 8-4 because I'm a cheerleader.... realistic 7-5. never thought we could beat tech, just hoped we could

You misunderstand. Yes, there were some on this board who predicted a win in a post here or there. But that wasn't the question. The question was of those who took the poll as to what our record is going to be at the end of this season, how many counted Tech as a W. And the answer is very few.

Thanks, PonyPride. Good to know that it was a 'false alarm'. Go Mustangs!

I stayed til the end

Postby Argyle Pony » Fri Sep 07, 2007 4:58 pm

I stayed til the end just as I have all games I have gone to see. I was yelling defense, offense and Mustangs until the end. This is one of my 4 losses....We had better get going or it might be 4-8 instead of my 8-4...I still believe all will work out better than last year. Go Mustangs!!!
