The Holiday Bowl in 1980 was officiated by a Big 2 crew. The Big 2 officials sucked then and they suck now. Some things never change.

I rememebr the great Lance throwing three straight passes into the end zone where Texas backs were all over our receiver (We would have beaten Texas with the TD) and the refs refused to throw a flag. Texas always got the calls against us.
Thus it is not surprising that the refs screwed ASU when they were close to beating TU.

Big 12 officials said Wednesday they would not comment publicly about the call because of the league's sportsmanship rules.

"There are not any games where there are not some mistakes," said Walt Anderson, supervisor of Big 12 football officials. "We very freely and openly discuss those with our coaches. We don't discuss those with other coaches.

I seem to recall last year, when OU was screwed by the refs up in Oregon, the Big 12 had no problem commenting publicly about those calls. But this is the current day college footbal system, what is good for the goose (BCS) is no always good for the gander (non BCS).

In all fairness Arkpony, I strongly believe that only 2 of those should have been pass interference. :)

It was actually Don King. I believe the year was 1985. I have it on VHS tape if anyone wants to watch the mauling Marquis Pleasant took on one of the passes. The call was being made by the great Keith Jackson who said something like, "Oh my, the SMU receiver was completely undressed on that play. I can't believe there are no flags."

For you youngsters, we used to play on national TV with Keith Jackson calling the play by play. That's how far we have fallen.

Texas coach Mack Brown said Wednesday, "When you look at calls, some go for us, some go against us. You don't worry about them and move on."

unless the call had gone against UT and the Longhorns lost.

Can you imagine?????

Actually the incident I was referring to WAS Lance at Q-Back and we were playing at Austin. It doesn't surprise me that they did the same thing to King and Pleasant (A great Pony combination also)

Lance never lost in Austin. We won there in 1980 and in 1982. Lance never beat them in Dallas, though. 1981 was 7-9, and the 1983 loss was our only loss of the regular season.

In Arkansas he is a former Little Rock high school star that went on to be All American at Oklahoma and sired a son by the same name who played at UA and was drafted into the NFL this year.

I like the announcer guy better.

You are correct sir. 44-14. One of my top ten SMU games seen live.
