I do not know if the interest went both ways or not but at least there is an impressive group of schools listed.

Lee plays for Tyler Lee according to Rivals, which is a school that would be nice for SMU to continue to make in roads with. Rivals rates him 5.1. The bio says that he is a DT, but the videos on Rivals only show him playing RG. He definitely can move the pile :!:

Former WR Andy Bergfeld lives in Tyler...in fact, I think he is a sitting school board president or something....

Tyler is the "jewel", or to be more accurate to its image, the "rose" of East Texas. Beautiful place...tends to be white collar or approaching it. Nice athletes in big schools. I agree...SMU should recruit the hell out of it, and why they haven't is anybody's guess.

A mild criticism of Bennett...he has inroads over here...his brother...hell, himself...all the way to Shreveport...but for whatever reason, they simply don't do a lot this way. And I think that's a shame....

BTW, somebody find out who the junior QB is that ran the offense for Cypress Woods...or whatever new school that was that hung 63 on Marshall with a no-huddle, 5 wide out offense almost the entire time they were playing.

Highland Park didn't hang that many on Marshall (although they could've).

Our people have been carrying on about how great they thought that QB was.

"Don't do much that way"? Huh?

Marshall: Mario Walker
Paris: Jessie Henderson, Ladarrius Gunn
Clarksville: Adrian Dizer
New Boston: Cedrick Dorsey
Longview: Tony Hawkins

Dews is being recruited as a defensive tackle, not offensive guard (although that, of course, could change).

From the texashsfootball.com combine:

HEIGHT: 6'1
WEIGHT: 335
40 YD DASH: 5.01
20 YD SHUTTLE: 4.8
VERTICAL JUMP: 27.5"
BENCH PRESS: 350
SQUAT: 550
GPA: 2.7

Second-team all-district as a sophomore (not sure about junior year).

Attended TCU and UHouston "combines" in 2005.

At the U.S. Army National Combine (2007), he was among the top 10 in the bench press.

You forgot Justin Smart, Marshall....

Fair enough. I stand corrected. I should just let them recruit in peace.

According to a recent Rivals article, Dews said he committed to SMU because:

1) It is close to home.
2) It is an up and coming program.
3) He gets to play defense here.

Welcome to Dallas, Ralston!

in 2006-over a year ago he was at the Baton Rouge Rivals combine and was measured at 5-11.5, 343 and ran a 5.42 Forty all verified. At a Dallas Scout combine which I believe was this year he was measured at 6-0, 340 and ran a 5.37

Junior Tour: Dews quickly adapting after transfering to Tyler Lee

Dews will stay in red and black, but for Tyler Lee, not GP North Shore.
03/04/2007
By Jake Shaw/TexasFootball.com

Trapping and hunting wild hogs — it's not a pastime in suburban Houston.

So when Ralston Dews moved from Galena Park to East Texas, relatives introduced him to the sport.

"I had never had done it before," Dews said, "but it was fun."

Dews is familiar with defensive line play. He started as a sophomore and junior the past two seasons at North Shore, but that was on the offensive line.

"I wanted to play defensive line at North shore," Dews said, "but they needed me on the offensive line."

Since moving to Charles' hometown of Tyler, and subsequently enrolling at Tyler Lee, defensive line has come back into the picture.

"They used him on offense at North Shore," Charles Dews said, "but he's a defensive tackle. (Lee head coach Mike)Owens is going to play him at tackle, colleges are recruiting him at tackle.

"He's only 6-1, but he's 335, and he's got a lot of speed and quickness."

Dews indeed has unusual quickness for his massive size. He recently was clocked at 5.01 in the 40. Because of that, recruiting interest is high, though Dews still awaits his first offer.

Asked for his top choices, Dews mentioned LSU, Oklahoma State, Boston College and Miami.

"There isn't really any school that's standing out more than the others right now," Dews said.

Offers will come eventually, but response from the community was instantaneous. Dews has joined the Lee track team, and he said he already feels like part of the team.

"The teammates and coaches have been good," Dews said. "They welcomed me with open arms. Everyone's been good."

While Dews is making new friends, he's also reconnecting with relatives. Charles Dews grew up in East Texas, went to Whitehouse High school before graduating from Tyler Catholic.

After a recent heart attack, doctors told Charles he needed to quit working. He said he decided that the time had come to return to his roots.

So when the family moved to Tyler, Charles sent Ralston off with cousins out into the wild.

"When I brought them back, (Ralston) got to go out and trap wild hogs, and they didn't get to do that down (in Houston)," Charles said. "That helped him get adjusted. He's really excited about coming to Tyler and playing."

Dews enjoyed the hunting experience, but asked if hog-wrestling is his new hobby, Dews was pretty quick with his reply.

"I don't know about that."

More on Ralston Dews
Word spread quickly that Ralston Dews was moving to Tyler.

Charles Dews said a member of Tyler TK Gorman, Charles' alma mater which used to be called Tyler Catholic, contacted him about Ralston playing at the school.

"He wanted to play for a big 5A school," Charles said. "The coach over there wanted Ralston to play there, but Ralston looked at it and thought it was too small."

In fact, Raltson Dews already has a date on the calendar circled.

"He's looking forward to playing Euless Trinity," Charles said. "When he saw that, he was like, 'man, I want to play Euless Trinity.' He likes that competition."
