You are correct sir. 44-14. One of my top ten SMU games seen live.
Todd Dodge was QB in that game. I hope it won't be the last time we beat him.
I also remember the pass interfence non-call on Don King's passes at Texas. I was mad at the ref's for blowing the calls and also mad at Bobby Collins for calling the same fade to the corner 3 times ina row (or was it 4). We were robbed that game. I think we ended up SWC co-champs and played our last bowl against Notre Dame.

I remember going down to Austin in the Fall of 1972, my freshman year, for the game where we lost. I believe the score was 13-9, but what stood out for me was the fact that we had not one touchdown called back for holding in the game, but two touchdowns called back for holding. Of course, we ended up kicking field goals both times, which was the reason we lost the game. I quickly realized why Texas was so dominant in the ole' SWC!

In all fairness Arkpony, I strongly believe that only 2 of those should have been pass interference.
It was actually Don King. I believe the year was 1985. I have it on VHS tape if anyone wants to watch the mauling Marquis Pleasant took on one of the passes. The call was being made by the great Keith Jackson who said something like, "Oh my, the SMU receiver was completely undressed on that play. I can't believe there are no flags." For you youngsters, we used to play on national TV with Keith Jackson calling the play by play. That's how far we have fallen. Pony Up!
What is this VHS that you refer to?

Careful...you don't want to confuse that with a Beta tape.

I thought so. I am glad someone else remembers. Stallion, I'd be interested in your thoughts on that play calling. We forget some of Bobby Collins' game day decisions were questioned in hindsight also.

I was there..I thought it was three but it could have been four. I remember the TU defensive back was all over our receivers and the refs would not make a call. Lance kept throwing it, I assume because if the defender stayed off the receiver;s back, it would be a TD. BUt alas, no whistles.

it wasn't Lance-it was Don King. Lance won both games in Austin-and this incident happened in a loss without question.

These are excerpts from articles from Google News Archives on the 1984 SMU/Texas Game in Austin -the correct answer is 3 lob passes from Don King on 2nd, 3rd and 4th downs. I knew we had an incompletion on 4th down. The most controversial was a non-call on James Lott against Marquis Pleasant that spawned several calls for TV replays. You can buy an article for $2.99 from this service.

AUSTIN -- The controversial no-call on Texas defensive back James Lott that helped the Longhorns defeat SMU Saturday looked like a "pretty normal play' to UT coach Fred Akers.
Akers said there was some, but not much, contact between Lott and SMU receiver Marquis Pleasant on SMU quarterback Don King's pass in the end zone to Pleasant that Lott batted away to preserve Texas' 13-7 victory. "I would have been disappointed had they

Bobby Collins had his chance to cry us a river. Collins
could have wept openly on reporters' shoulders. He could have whined for mercy, pleaded for justice, threatened to drop the big blackball, and in general, model himself after a sniveling Barry Switzer.
And we all would have listened, because Collins had a legitimate scream coming on Saturday, just as Switzer did two Saturdays before. But lucky ol' us, we get the class end of the deal here in Dallas.

By his own description, it was a
disappointed and determined Bobby Collins who stirred the ashes Sunday left by Texas' 13-7 victory over his SMU football team.
The Mustangs' coach was more concerned Sunday with breathing life into a team that now has lost two straight than moaning about an apparent fourth-quarter pass interference not called against Texas that denied SMU a chance at the go-ahead score. His quiet response to questions about the key play were in

as for the playcalling SMU thought they had an advantage because Jacobs was 6-3 and Pleasant was at least 6-2. But you know what if memory serves me well James Lott the UT defender was the Texas recordholder in the High Jump-maybe not a great idea.
