FordtoTolbert wrote:Went to the Ole [deleted] / Mizzou game yesterday....they have an in / out policy, just like SMU, you think it is a hassle at an SMU game? Try getting to the Grove, unloading, parking and finding a bathroom, etc., etc...95% of you wannabes wouldn't last 3 minutes in Oxford. Also, NEW Grove policy, NO BOOZE....so, we want to be big time,,,welcome to it.

Ole [deleted] stadium was not full, students left early in the 3rd. Q, bathrooms were rank, consessions we average, probably same type folks working there as SMU...damn, might as well shut the whole Ole [deleted] gameday thing down, based on what we complain about...

Who wants to be part of this [deleted] and moaning negative pitty party crap?? Wonder why we can't draw more alums in? and plain old folks from the DFW area?..probably has more to do with OUR attitude versus the number of ice cubes in our $5 Dr. Pepper...

Get over it...

Pretty sure I've had discussions with this jerk on the board before. In addition to referring to Ole Miss by a different name (showing his sophistication and good manners  ), he obviously has no idea what he is talking about.

Actually, in my 4 years of tailgating the Grove, it was 10 times easier than tailgating on the Blvd., never mind free, and it happens to be the #1 tailgating spot in the nation according to ESPN. As for bathrooms, the buildings are open, and they have the "Hotty Toddy Potties." I noticed SMU had some new bathrooms yesterday - good addition.

Also, the new GROVE policy is not "no booze" as you said. In response to an officer of the UPD being killed by a drunk driver last year, Ole Miss instituted new policies regarding alcohol in the Grove. No beer or light wine (wine coolers) are allowed (officially), but liquor is ok. Alcohol is ok in the Grove as long as its in a cup, and as long as there are no unattended coolers.

This board isn't just about complaining, its about suggesting ways to improve.

Oh, and by the way, the attendance at the Ole Miss - Mizzou game was 51,000 - and thats for a non-SEC game....

I'm sure that makes all the difference in the world.

I must be a very lucky person. My season tickets were mailed to me in plenty of time. I parked in the garage without being stopped. I walked about 10 yards to my tailgating group which, as far as I could tell, ate and drank without a problem. Nobody's dog bit me. I entered the stadium without a hassle. (In fact, the man at the gate apologized for having to check my purse.) I watched the Mustang Band, bought a Coke at half-time and got back before the 3rd quarter started. I was surrounded by really nice Mustang fans who were enthusiastic about the game. And then the Ponies won.

Hopefully my luck will hold up in Jonesboro. See you there!

LawSchoolPony.....Ole [deleted] is not my creation, in fact, every UT, Alabama, Georgia, MSU, LSU and Florida fan I know refers to Ole Miss as Ole [deleted], sorry, must be an "SEC thing"...since I do not live on campus at Ole MISS, and cannot walk to the Grove, and am in a postion to pay some KA $500 to set up my tent, I had to get there REALLY early, fight the traffic in, unload like JR's pit crew, with cops and people yelling at us and the others around me doing the same thing..then, we had to park clear across campus, pack a lunch and hike back....the Hotty Toddy Potties, or whatever you call them, were......nasty, sorry, but they were.

YES! you had 51,000, not a sell out, AND the frat boy / dress wearing Paris Hilton crowd left the game EARLY in the 3rd. Q....booze flowed like a river in the Grove, as evidenced by the prolific use of the F BOMB at just about every other tent, my young sons were wide eyed....

We showed GREAT restrant all day, we were polite, we were respectful and acted VERY interested in ALL the neato Ole Miss stories told to us by the folks around us..yawn.....unfortunately, when we returned to our "spot" after the game, our wine was gone, our chicken and steak sandwiches were gone, and two our our Masters chairs were missing...I can certainly see why Ole Miss is the #1 party school, infact, the Grove seems to be about the ONLY thing Ole Miss has "going" for it...Long Live Showboat Boykin.

^I won't even take the time to actually respond to the above post. Just like I've never heard of the term used to refer to Ole Miss and I've been an Ole Miss fan for a long time, I'm confident his reflections on the Grove are inaccurate.

I think SMU has a great campus and has the chance to really build on the good aspects of the Blvd. tailgating experience. One way is to focus on the term "Boulevard" just like Ole Miss has focused on the term "The Grove" and has turned it into term that is known around college football. Some of the new marketing this year reflects that.

But, the fact remains, if the die-hard SMU fans like those of us on this board have legitimate and real concerns about their experience at SMU gameday, there is no hope for the program attracting random Dallas fans, especially as long as the football remains mediocre at best.

I assume you've seen the ads for SMU that say "We Don't Tailgate, We Boulevard"?

One more thing, LSP...we sat on Hwy 7 for 1 1/2 hours last night, seems there was an alcohol related 5 car wreck, still trying to confirm deaths, but vehicles were coming back from game...so much for the new "policy"..just hope and pray no one was killed. Hotty Toddy.

Sometimes at Ford it can be like an opera. Speaking of which, I had to laugh at the Dallas Opera insert in the gameday program from Saturday and especially the catchy marketing slogan they're using: "Misery loves company"!!! They're obviously targeting the SMU fans!

If you waited 35 minutes for a Ford Stadium hot dog, you've got more serious issues than a long concession line.
