Re: Attendance on Saturdaywe drew about 26k for Navy last year, and that's a good crowd in Ford. Just need good weather and it would help to have TV blacked out in the local area (do they do that?). This game and TCU are the two that will allow us to make the 15k average. With decent weather, Homecoming will draw better than 15 k so the others can limp home at about 8k each and we're still O.K.
Re: Attendance on SaturdayWhy Cant it look like this every game!

Re: Attendance on SaturdayHey Mustangs35SMU,
Are you making the trip to Big D to see the OK State game, or traveling to the Shreveport Independence Weedeater Bowl to see the #6 national, #2 southwest, #5 Texas ranked Longview Lobos play the nationally ranked Shreveport Evangel Eagles? I might add the Lobos beat them when they were nationally ranked last year in a shootout in Lobo Stadium something like 32 - 30. It has to be one of the top 5 HS games I've ever seen, and I saw the great Highland Park / Plano game in TX Stadium in 78 I believe it was. Shoot, you can stay where you are. You can listen to Johnny, Brent, and Eddie on the radio while you watch Fox Sports TV. I was planning to go to the game Sat. Maybe I need to do a road trip to Longview to visit my Dad? Kinda confused what to do since the Lobos looked like doo doo against Lake Highlands in "The Boneyard" only beating them by 10, and really could've lost easily. With all the fumbles, interceptions and homer calls they had with LH, I think they'll get killed by Evangel in Shreveport. LHS70 May the forth be with us.
Re: Attendance on SaturdayI see San Jose drew only 10,173 for their game last night w/Nevada. For anyone interested, Nevada beat them 42-30. Good thing for San Jose they drew well in their opener against Grambling. That's about the same kind of "crowd" we would draw for Nevada (may not do much better than that for our WAC home games). That's why the OSU and TCU games' attendance is so important this year.
Re: Attendance on SaturdayIf SMU wasn't charging TCU $36 per ticket, then there would certainly be more TCU fans at that game. As it is, my wife and I will probably just pocket the $72 and go out to eat - unless we are undefeated at that point.
Re: Attendance on Saturday$72.00 is not too high a price for a taste of civilization.
Re: Attendance on SaturdayWho is charging $36 for tickets????? Are those luxury boxes or something or is our ticket officec really that dumb?
Re: Attendance on SaturdayMany, if not all, sports teams around the country have been adjusting tickets prices based on the "quality" of the contest. For instance, it would cost more to see a Rangers game when the NY Yankess are in town than, say, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. It has become a rather common practice in all of sports that last time I checked and it's not a terribly new mechanism. We may have been doing it last year as well. I think it's a sound idea that maximizes revenue for the games everyone wants to see while also allowing "less exciting" matchups to be sold at more economical rates.

Re: Attendance on SaturdaySince I'm a little ignorant on this subject, what are the NCAA attendance requirements, and are they for each year? Anybody with a good working knowledge of this?

We bought season tickets to all TCU home games for $54 per person (6 games). Its hard to turn around and pay $36 per ticket for the SMU game. The rich folks will go regardless but forget about the casual fan. JMHO.
Re: Attendance on SaturdayWell if it makes you feel any better ReedFrawg, it costs us $150 per seat for 6 home games.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Attendance on SaturdayI just spoke with Woody Norris (SMU Mktg.) who told me that 26,000+ tickets are 'out the door' for tomorrow's game. Final attendance figures are projected to be around 30,000. He also suggested that you should tape tomorrow's broadcast of the game on Fox Sports Southwest.

Re: Attendance on Saturdayyeah I think that's too much for a game that can't even draw 30,000. The most freshing news I've had in awhile was when Tech only charged what $22 for 2 tickets in Lubbock. That's a pretty big descrepancy between Tech who really wants to fill up the stadium and SMU who is trying to milk every cent it can out of one of the few interesting games of the year BECAUSE THE PROGRAM IS SO INEPT THAT THE REST OF THE GAMES (except OSU)ARE UNAPPEALING TO ITS FANS>
