Arkansas St. carrying the ultimate chip on its shoulder

Postby George S. Patton » Tue Sep 11, 2007 8:35 am

Read in today's DMN how ASU coach Steve Roberts said the 55-9 game last year was a topic of discussion at Monday's practice.

Really? Ya think? Of course, he's going to use that to motivate his players.

But the way the ASU fans and even some of our own fans our behaving, it sounds like we should probably apologize for that rout. We had no right to beat the Indians/Nothings soundly. That's nuts. Steve Roberts and his staff should have found a way to prevent that. Well, they didn't. That's their fault.

And the same knuckleheads are running around talking up how well they played Texas and that some blown onsides kick call prevented them from scoring. Well, blown call or no blown call they lost the game. That's the bottom line. And they would never beat Texas, so let's get that straight.

Now, the Indians are being portrayed on this board as contenders for the National Title. What the hell is the matter with you people.

I recognize that Bennett's road record is 4-infinity. But before we crown the Indians right up there with LSU, let's remember that every week is different, every game is different.

This comparison score business is garbage.

Do I expect us to win up in Jonesboro? Absolutely. If this team is going to be one of character and is going to be the group that it was portrayed in the summer, then they have no choice but to win.

Instead of us worrying about Arkansas State, they better equally worry about us!

We're worried alright.....worried you might back out of the game.

8)

Seriously, we still don't know what kind of team we have. We're hoping the Texas game was a preview to our season, but one game can't possibly tell you anything. And with the postponement of the Memphis St game, everyone is a little anxious. So yeah, I can see where our fans might seem like they're mouthing off a little.

We're worried about you guys. For whatever reason, yall whipped us soundly last year. We're just hoping for some payback.

The ASU No-Names

Postby Sam I Am » Tue Sep 11, 2007 12:40 pm

I still think the Arky Anglos would be a good new name for the team that can't be called Indians. As for last year's game score, once a year PB rips a game unexpectedly. In 2005 it was the TCU game. But those were home games, and this could end up being road kill.

I would be surprised if SMU doesn't win 55-9 again.

Besides last years score, do you think the asu coaches were talking about how many times that would like to run the hitch or the quick slant? Maybe a little of both. I'm not sure if we realize that those game tapes tend to get passed around a bit.

I would be surprised if SMU won this week. Pleasantly surprised, that is.

The Disadvantage for SMU in this game is that no one really knows what kind of offense ASU will run Saturday. Traditionally we are a run first team, and Texas played expecting that, and we came out pass first and tore their defense to shreds from between the 20's. But no one really knows if that was a change in offensive philosophy, or a 1 game thing

We didnt beat up Texas. We lost the football game. But we did outplay them in every statistical catagory except Punting average and Kick Returning.

We also played them better then the #21 team in the country could last week, and without anything else to go on, excuse us for being a bit optimistic

Optimism is frowned upon by some on this board. Better to stick to realism just to be safe.

Everyone knows Patton graduated from USMA. He's still crabby over our season opening defeat of his alma mater last year.

Custer graduated from West Point also and we know what the Indians did to him. We had better be ready.

Not much of a last stand, was it? In fact, it happened on July 4, 1876 -- also not a way to celebrate the country's centennial anniversary.
