I don't believe that we have a dedicated special teams coach so don't worry about having him fired. You can't blame special team players in general due to the poor play of a few. There are several who go out every game and play their a** off only to hear how bad the special teams are. One of those players suffered an ACL injury tonight but you won't hear about it because you'll be to busy [deleted] about some aspect of this team.

I didn't know anyone hurt his ACL! Who was it?
Hope it was just a sprain, not a tear.

I'm concerned that Ryan Mentzel has had so much pressure on him in the early games. Does the offensive line coach coordinate the blocking for special teams, or is that someone else? I saw that as the key to the breakdowns on special teams.

I think a few special teams players' heads will roll before we go for the coach.

Godfrey,#28, injured his knee during a tackle. He'll have an MRI Monday to confirm damage.Initial diagnosis has him out for the season. He'll be missed on special teams as he was a key player.

No, there is a special teams coach...he wears SMU t-shirts and shorts and sometimes a whistle and everything. Each particular unit is under the direction of a particular coach, which may be the problem. Some coaches are obviously better than others, but the weaker ones play a key role in the preparation in some of the units being really exposed. Mentzel, McMurtray and the deep snappers don't have a coach, they have each other in their own sector of the stadium.

Someone needs to figure it out there has been a blocked punt a game and one that never got off at Tech. You would think someone would get down there with a stopwatch, a punt should never be blocked with a quick snap and a fast punt. If it's done timely you shoudn't even need a line.

Coach Fello is technically the special teams coach, although more than just one are involved with special teams.

That's a shame about Godfrey's knee. He's come a long way since his arrival at SMU, and has worked incredibly hard - isn't he one of the team leaders in the weight room? That measures effort, not just raw strength. And we can't affort to lose people on special teams.

Here's hoping for a full and speedy recovery.

Godfrey had his MRI today.Torn ACL and bruised MCL.Will be out until summer workouts. Tough kid who'll be battling for starting SS position come two a days next year. He's got the drive, motivation and talent to overcome this injury.
