Stallion wrote:on www.Tribalgrounds.com they have a score prediction thread and its unanimous(except for one SMU fan) that they all predict a victory for ASU. I didn't count the 5 pages of predictions but it might be 60-0 in favor of ASU. They are even bigger homers than SMU fans. Disgusting.
SMU fans...homers? Yeah right. Not me. If the Mustangs win this one. I'll be surprised.

I am not overly confident going into this one, however I find it interesting that both ASU and SMU fans that think the ASU-Texas score carries the day. Why is the SMU-ASU score irrelevant.
Unfortunately, Vegas is very good and they are predicting the Ponies lose. I am predicting that Sin City misses it by at leat four and Ponies win!

I don't think either score is especially relevant.
Last year's because I listened to our coaches talk off-the-record about how they didn't expect SMU to devote as much to the spread as they saw on film against Sam Houston and expected SMU to run the offense more like it was against TT and UNT. They apparently thought SMU was doing that because of the opponent. Couple a fiasco like that with what was essentially an all freshman backfield and the stage was perfectly set for a disaster.
I don't throw a lot of credence into the Texas game because ASU hasn't played another game yet to demonstrate that it was just "one of those nights".
The only thing I feel confident about coming out of the Texas game is that ASU is pretty good in the trenches.

I don't buy that "you surprised us" crap. Why would we revert to the offense that scored a whoppin' 9 points in 2 games as opposed to one that scored 45 in one game? What happened to in-game adjustments? We essentially had an all-freshman offense (QB, mutliple receivers, etc.), so I'm thinking that point is pretty moot.
Your secondary was slow as Christmas, you turned the ball over too much, and you didn't pressure our QB. The end. Quit your rationalizations.
Now, do I expect this year to be the same? Absolutely not, but I can sure hope. Here's to hoping PB gets his 5th road win.

I'm not selling anything so I don't ask you to "buy" it.
I just can tell you I heard the coaches say on the Thursday before the game that they did not expect SMU to use the spread look very much before that game.
I'm not trying to rationalize a damned thing. Giving you a straight reporting of facts. You think its crap, drive to Jonesboro find Coach Roberts and tell him he was blowing smoke last year before the game.

This has always amazed me and given me cause to worry about Roberts. I personally think he is a very good coach, but we had run the spread and the spread only for 4 years straight before that game. Did he think we were going to change for ASU?

He seemed convinced the Ponies were going to do option crap on the ground.

Perhaps he needs to hire Belichick's spies. I understand they are available.
