outsiders persepctive

Postby jason54858 » Sun Sep 16, 2007 1:11 am

Look I have been following this board for a long time now and I getiing a little concerned over the fire Bennet compaign going on. I know the record over the last 5 years but rebuilding takes time. Now I am not a student of SMU nor have I ever been. What makes me a fan is I currently have two family members who play for the mustangs, and I am not giving names. I have talked to these family members and recieved much of there perspective on the ongoings of the team. There words exactly " Bennet is a Defensive minded coach. During practice most of his time is spent on the defensive side of the ball than the offense. Which gives Burns compete control over the offense, and when look at the Texas Tech game, and Ark State offense is what the problem is. How can you blame someone for something they dont really control. I say call for Burn's head not Bennets.

If so much time is spent on the defense, why is the team giving up 500+ yards a game?

He is the Head Coach and ultimately responsible for both sides of the ball. If he is spending most of his time with the defense, it's obviously not working. We're giving up career high yardage and touchdowns on a weekly basis. The problem is on both sides of the ball. Moorestead's punting is the only thing this team has done well so far.

Phil needs to go!!!!!

Your relatives deserve more than this. :x

OK that narrows down who your family members are, but if you don't think defense is our problem you either haven't seen the stats from the first 3 games or you only follow your family members' side of the ball. The defense has been pathetic. Giving up 45 points against a legitimate team is bad enough... what we did last night was ridiculous.

And you no what all of you are right. I am not saying Bennet doesnt deserve any fault. I not even saying he doesnt deserve to be fried. All I am saying is he dosent deserve all of the blame here.

jason...patience is a virtue...and right now the majority of the folks on this board are not a virtuous lot...it's not just the record over the last 5 years...it's the record over the last 20 years!...c'mon...if TCU, Tulsa, UTEP, etc. can rebuild in a fraction of the time that it's taking SMU to get its sh*t together then something is seriously wrong on The Hilltop.

And people wonder why I didn't renew my SMU football season tickets this year...

Got news for ya, Orsini...I ain't gonna 'Pony Up!' for SMU football season tickets until I see progress...and right now I don't see it.

SMU fans are probably more patient than most. Personally, my patience ran out after 19 years. Somewhere around halftime of the UNT game last year.

if bennett is spending all his time with the defense, i wonder what they have been doing, because it sure isnt: 1)bump-and-run coverage 2)press coverage 3)tackling 4)blitzing 5)getting pressure 6)eliminating big plays 7)forcing turnovers[/list]

They also don't work on making adjustments.
