And they wonder why I didn't renew it this year. ![]()
The idea that..."we don't tailgate, we boulevard" is a source of jokes all around town. It's just another terrible marketing campaign.
Newbie, your personal injuries pale next to the challenges we have faced since the DP. I grin when I see this kind of a post that "my suffering" is too great for me to support my alma mater (I assume you're a graduate)and the "adminstration, coaches, Athletic Dept., School Media, Mustang Club, the Letterman, the cheerleaders, band, custodians, librarians, etc., etc., etc. just don't get it. I am going to hold my breath until they understand the misery they are causing" Get a life. Your indignity is hardly justified. Pony Up
I agree this is a bad idea. Simply reinforces that SMU "we're better than you" attitude that has made us so popular among Dallas sports fans
I graduated in '96 and my brother in '95. We obviously didn't go there because of athletics but I still became a huge fan of SMU. I have had my time as well to suffer 15 years of pain. I've been a supporter ever since I saw my first game in the fall of '92. I have supported SMU and the athletic department with money, participation, and fund raising.
I'm just now starting to post because I have started to admit to myself that I am insane for expecting different outcome year after year. "If you're not making enemies, you're not making money!" --GG
Water Pony,
Tough to tell who is a Newbie and who is a long-time fan by simply looking at posts. There are A LOT of good fans that never post. Since I know who this poster is, I will just go ahead and defend him as FAR from a "fair-weather" fan. Not your fault for not knowing that he is a real fan, but before you attack another poster simply looking at post numbers..THINK! DBB
Popularity among sports fans is a bad thing?
He's being sarcastic. Or he forgot to type 'un' in front of popular. Either way, it's the same thing.
Fair enough, but the indignity (justified or not) comes through. The "I can't take it anymore", sounds naive and in my opinion, misplaced. This team is our team and Phil may not be up to the herculean task required of any SMU coach since the DP. I would rather support these young men than take the time to blame the media department, which seems like a waste of energy. As for support, I am respectfully the Class of 1968! Pony Up
Water Pony,
At least from the Class of 1968 you saw some winning teams. Any fan under the age of 45 has never seen that! Scary! DBB
If they're under 45 (born in 1962), it depends on when they began watching/attending SMU games. I would argue that some folks under 45 have seen winning teams from SMU. 1986 - 6-5-0 1985 - 6-5-0 1984 - 10-2-0 1983 - 10-2-0 1982 - 11-0-1 1981 - 10-1-0 1980 - 8-4-0
So much for the great 80'sSMU was great in the 80's and the late 40's. If we are in a 40 year cycle, I hope I live long enough to make 2020.

Re: So much for the great 80's
The only reason we were great in the 80's was due to having a team with a higher payroll than most NFL teams............
