Back from literally one of the worst towns I have ever been in (Jonesboro), what a joke!
Every game, I wait and see what Phil can do to adjust. I want him to win so badly, it hurts..literally. This is not the first time I have called for his head, but the facts speak for themselves. We have a lot of talent and speed on this team and they are not being used. Good coaches can take medium talent and make them good. All we need to do is look at our very own C-USA.
Some of you will say back your guy, no matter what. Well, I back my guy no matter what when I trust him. I don't trust Phil. I have NEVER thought he was a good fit on the football side. This is the blind leading the naive.
Phil is a really good man, no doubt about it...but I have fired really good men, because they were not doing a good job.
I am sick of rebuilding, but sometimes you just have.

The Dukies of the world have cause to celebrate after breaking a 22 game losing streak. It could be worse at SMU, but I don't want to be Duke.

What a quote, Sam. DBB is a fan of SMU FB.
Not that he needs my defense, but Duke's athletic program is light years ahead of SMU with arguably tougher entrance guidelines than the Hilltop. M & W programs have 10 teams each-- they even figure out how to have baseball, too. Oh yeah, they're also in a BCS conference.

Well, that pretty much takes care of the money issues.

So what's your point, PK?
TCU is also light years ahead & they're not in a BCS conference.
We continue to live in the past like we're entitled, based upon the Doak era. All the while, other small private school programs adapt to ncaa:
[1] Rice kicks ars in baseball;
[2] Duke kicks ars in basketball;
[3] tcu kicks ars in football.
The common thread of the three examples are each have winnning coaches. These coaches may not have been proven winners prior to arriving at these destinations, but they delivered value on gameday & helped build their programs.

My point is that money does make a difference and being in a BCS conference certainly helps from that side of the equation. Can't say much re: Rice and Duke as I have no real knowledge of their operations, but I do have enough insight into TCU's operations to know that their Board of Trustees is made up of mostly people with alumni ties, unlike SMU, and their Board is totally behind their Athletic Department. They have put in loads of money to support their football program including paying big bucks for their coaches. They may not have BCS money, but they have alums with pleanty of money WHO ARE WILLING TO INVEST IT IN THEIR ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT. They also have not tried to hog-tie their coaches recruiting efforts. They make it possible to recruit the best athletes available...who meet NCAA minimum academic requirements. We may say that, but I would venture a guess that it is still not the norm at SMU.

We kick ars in soccer, swimming and golf, so what! You want to emulate Rice? We have a good athletic program but our football team has been rebuilding for 20 years. We have grown tired of the "promises" that things will be better "next year". George Allen's most famous slogan was "the future is now". Well Mr. Orsini, Mr. Bennett, and Mr. Turner, the future is now. TCU is our opportunity to show that future this week. If we aren't prepared for this game, I suspect you'll hear crickets chirping at Ford for the rest of the year.

Couldn't have said it any better - PK.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
