this isnt sour grapes...i just didnt get around to posting it before the game, but why would we ever schedule a home and home with Ark State? Its a no name, low academic requirements school with some athletes. Don't we know who we are? Why arent we scheduling Army or Navy for a home and home instead? They are D-1 and at least if they beat your [deleted] its not so embarrassing. Isnt it a no brainer? Help me here. I know travel is part of it, but its not like we recruit arkansas either.
Not to mention the fact that we agreed to play there before even checking if there's a decent hotel within 50 miles.
The juice smells like vinegar.
The initial intent of ASU was to play this game in Little Rock but our administration found nominal sponsorship interest for the game there. ASU's academic standards are no lower than 8 of your conference mates. If you are going to marry trash you think is below you, there's not much sense in putting down similar non-conference scheduling.
I totally agree. I thought it was really stupid when Copeland, sorry... I mean Copeland, scheduled this game in the first place and we had to go to Jonesboro, Ark. for game 2. It is a no win situation. I mean, with our own attendence problems, how do we benefit going up there and playing before one of their " big crowds ", 17,000 ? We don't make any money and still got our butts beat because it was their "game of the year".............If you want to do that you schedule Grambling State....30,000+ crowds both at our Stadium and Sheveport ( Independence Bowl ) and we should win both games.
What sort of two-bit program goes home and home with a I-AA. Some serious identity issues here.
dude this isnt a put down. I am not on YOUR board talking smack. go home. good win for you guys. I liked your team, your qb was tough as nails. you whipped us, good luck. I would just rather play Army for several valid reasons.

Some serious identity issues here.[/quote]..............Grambling State and SMU played a home and home in the early 1980's when SMU was SWC champion. The games drew over 51,000 at Texas Stadium here and drew over 40,000 at the Independence Bowl in Sheveport....It is all about attendence not 1AA v. 1A... Enough said.
Look I fully understand that if your school elects to handicap athletics that it makes sense to schedule schools who follow a similar ideal (Stanford, Duke, Vandy, the academies all leap immediately to mind).
However your institution has elected to align with institutions more similar to ASU. Scheduling similarly would make sense. SMU our game of the year? Hardly. Our game of the year last year was Oklahoma State in Little Rock and this year hands down not even close its Memphis. They are our oldest rival. As to Grambling, they obviously fit the high academics model.
At the risk of getting my head bitten off, is it possible that ASU is not as bad as people on this board seem to think. They played UT within at TD at their place. I cannot imagine SMU playing the horns within 4 touchdowns in Austin. Just a thought.
As a stAte fan, I see your point. What your ad must have been thinking was that he would get a home game that was an easy win (that much was accomplished) at the cost of a road game in Little Rock that would be a likely win as well at an accessable venue for fans and cheap travel for the team and still likely a win.
If you beat Rice last year and go bowling the go in Dallas would have been a big part of that. Two things happened to make this deal turn sour for you. One is that stAte is MUCH better than when the contract was signed and certainly much better than that terrible display we put on last year at your place. Two, you did not get the LR location nailed down and when that proved unworkable for us financially you had to face stAte in Indian Stadium. It seems that the reports on this board from the few Pony fans at the game paint a different picture of our school and team that your opinions of us. Good luck the rest of the way.
Re: this isnt sour grapes...
If you want to question our choice to schedule Big 12 teams we have no chance of beating, I'll back you. Arkansas State, UNT,etc. are the types of non conference games we should play AND WIN. There is no excuse for losing these games against those teams. You didn't question this game last year when we won. Stop using academics as an excuse. Our team was not prepared for this game. Poor tackling, bad reads by the QB, etc. We need to make changes at the top and these games will be won by SMU. Also, Navy would kill this team.

I'm quite sure I did express lack of appreciation on this forum for the home and home agreement with ASU from the time it was announced. play ASU at home all day long if they want to come play, but don't go there. I bet that was smu's first ever trip to Jonesboro if i had to guess. There's a reason.
