I am not Stallion, but picking the five wins is easy. Win at home against UTEP and Tulane. Then win three in a row to end the year. Rice, UCF and Memphis. That is winning all the home games and one road game. I am actually cheering myself up thinking about it. Unfortunately, that is a helluva run to end the year considering you would be 3-6 going into it.

I can see it now-- we stumble into the "R&L Carriers N.O. Bowl", 6-6, and ASU kicks our [deleted] (again). Then, after the game, PB surpirse announcement that he's accomplished his goals of turning SMU FB around & got them to their 1st bowl in decades & he is moving on to another opportunity.
We get our bowl... and Applewhite for 08!

I hope you are right! However is Carrington or Dennis coming back for the second half of the season? Have you guys been watching these games? No Defense= maybe 1 more win
Unless he shakes up the defense I just don't see it-
However the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different result!
Until I hear about personnel changes or moving around the defense packages
I think you and Stallion are off your nut!

I have revised my preseason prediction to 4-8 (possibly 2-10)
Wins against
UTEP (maybe)
Tulane (maybe)
Rice (probably)
I just don't see this D holding off TCU, Southern Miss, Tulsa, Houston, UCF or Memphis.
This may be the worst defense in SMU history.
50 points/game
over 500 yards/game
Hard to win when you have to score over 50 to have a shot.

I just prefer to stick with my original prediction. See I knew AT THE START of the season that a loss at ASU was possible. Playing at Home in College Football is paramount. Rice and Tulane are awful, UTEP ain't much better. UCF at home and Memphis on the road look more difficult but a lot of things change in 2 months especially injuries. If Kevin Smith goes down at UCF things change. One school that we think is unbeatable will disappoint. Will the players who LUV Bennett rise to the occassion in his final game against Memphis-will Memphis have anything to play for. Happens every year. I would say beating UTEP in Dallas is a must win. I'm not bailing on my prediction until at least the next home loss.

Rice and Tulane and dollars to doughnuts we struggle to win both of them, I agree with nacho I don't see it! Bob Toledo will be better prepard than Bennett and so will Price! While I agree that Home Filed advantage is paramount Coaching trumps it!
Sorry Guys 2-10 with this defense and wait for a repeat of the Houston 95-21 debacle when we go up to Tulsa!

Since I think we are the worst team in the country any win will be an upset.
Can we please stop running Martin on sweeps. Not his forte. He is a power runner between tackles. I could go on and on. What a mess.

I find it funny that we knee-jerk so much, yet some people don't think winning out and going to a bowl would save Bennett's job, heck...I bet a lot of people on here would be ready to give him a 5 year extension if he does that. There's so much knee-jerking going on here, I can't say some of it isn't warranted, but if we start winning, opinions will change. I'm not counting on it though

Stallion wrote:He saves his job PERIOD if he goes to a bowl-any bowl-win, lose or draw. Can you imagine the negative publicity SMU gets for firing the first coach who took SMU to a Bowl in 20 years. Think this through. And 6-6 would be improvement with this schedule. I picked 6-6 before the year-still think he's got a shot.
Bennett won't get canned. He'll resign. And not 'asked to resign', either. Mark the date on your calendar...it'll either be on November 25, 2007 or December 2, 2007...when he holds a news conference to announce that he is resigning as head coach of the SMU Mustangs because "he's taken this team as far as he can" and it's time for someone else to take the reigns. He will make this announcement whether he is going to a bowl or not. If the Mustangs are going to a bowl, it will be PB's 'swan song'. Remember you heard it here first.

Carrington? Reggie? Clearly, he's not part of this years football team...
Rock Dennis would be extremely lucky to be back for the second half of the season, he's not slated to be and we shouldn't plan on it.
Meanwhile, lets hope Lindley is alright and that Moczy and J. Robinson will figure out their problems in a more peaceful manner next time...
